LaserWeeder: precision AI powered weed control in large-scale specialty crops
About us
Carbon Robotics, a Seattle-based agricultural robotics startup founded in 2018, builds innovative agricultural tools that empower farmers to operate more efficiently. Carbon Robotics’ revolutionary, high-precision laserweeding leverages sophisticated AI technology to improve crop quality, provide safer working conditions for farmers, reduce overall costs associated with modern farming, and create sustainable paths to regenerative and organic farming. The company launched its first product, the Autonomous LaserWeeder, in April 2021, raised a $27M Series B round in September 2021, and revealed its new LaserWeeder implement in February 2022. What’s it like working at Carbon Robotics? We are a no-nonsense team of passionate people with a bias for action. We know that our ability to execute on our ideas is what sets us apart. We do what we say we are going to do, externally and internally. We trust our people to act independently and make practical, real-world decisions.

SUPPLY CHAIN TRANSPARENCY. We do the FARMING, growing, packing, whole-peeling, marketing and shipping of ONIONS. One LAYER between procurement and farmer, instead of 6, means better communication and execution.
WE USE LASERS TO HAVE BEAUTIFUL CROPS! Unlike herbicides, which can harm crops along with weeds, the LaserWeeder can help improve crop yields using cameras and AI to target only weeds with concentrated laser beams. This minimizes damage to desirable plants and allows them to grow freely. By eliminating weeds that compete for resources, laser weeding allows onion plants to focus their energy on growth. This translates to stronger, healthier plants with the potential for larger bulbs. Weeds can stress onion plants, hindering their growth and bulb development. Laser weeding minimizes this stress, allowing onions to thrive and potentially reach their full-size potential. Consistent weed control across the field, achieved by laser weeding, can lead to more uniform onion sizes and appearance. This can be especially important for growers aiming for a high-quality product. Carbon Robotics #onions101 #farming #farm #farmer #produce #agriculture #laserweeder

A big thank you to our customer Tripod Farmers for hosting an awesome LaserWeeder demo yesterday! We got to show attendees from this year’s Hort Connections event how we keep Tripod’s Cos & other leafy green fields weed-free. It was great to hear from Angela Candeloro about how they are preparing for the future by looking to technology partners to support healthy, sustainable farming practices. We’re super excited to be exhibiting at our first Australian trade show this week, so stop by booth #291 at Hort Connections if you’re in Melbourne! #HortCon24 #HortConnections #ausveg #ifpaanz

📸✨After weeks of planning and waiting for just the right conditions, I finally captured a photograph of our Laserweeder with the Milky Way. I left the house this morning at 2am and headed south on the 101 to a machine at a farm nestled up against the Santa Lucia Highlands. The elements aligned perfectly, and the result is more than I could have hoped for. Cheers to many more!!! Carbon Robotics Braga Fresh Family Farms
