BuiltWorlds is proud and excited to introduce Kelsey Merdian, our new Customer Success Manager! As we continue to grow our member network, deepen the breadth of our research, elevate our events, and generally expand our service offerings, we are similarly growing our team. As Customer Success Manager, Kelsey will be working closely with BuiltWorlds Director of Operations Colin Yording to enhance our customer support and engagement efforts as well as identify and implement workflow efficiency initiatives. "I'm excited to have the opportunity to work closely with our customers to help them maximize their memberships," Kelsey says. Prior to joining BuiltWorlds, Kelsey, a graduate of Indiana University, served as the Head of Migration for Empire Flippers, an INC 500 company that facilitates the buying and selling of established and profitable online businesses. There, Kelsey was responsible for coordinating the successful exchange of business assets from sellers to buyers. In moving to BuiltWorlds and into the AEC industry, Kelsey is particularly interested in the intersection of sustainability and innovation. "I'm fascinated by sustainability in the built world because it merges innovation with environmental responsibility, offering solutions to mitigate impact and enhance livability." As you, our members, interact and get to know Kelsey, we hope you'll join us in giving her a warm welcome to the team!

Our Project Software Top 50 List was derived from a combination of the survey data, direct industry research, member conversations and feedback, and case studies. In other words, these technologies represent top solutions in their specific function categories (and in some cases, across multiple categories). Today we'd like to highlight our selections in the Project Management category of our Project Software Top 50. These are the technologies encouraging collaboration, connecting teams and workflows throughout a project's lifecycle, from planning to design to production and beyond. While there are countless project management softwares available on the market, these 14 stand out. Reality capture technology has been a game changer for the contractors that have taken the time and made the effort to master and include it in their construction process. Learn about its capabilities and how to leverage them at this year's Construction Tech Conference in Chicago! https://lnkd.in/gWjajxKV

Tech in construction has developed to the point that if you're not immersing yourself in the advances, proactively educating yourself on what's out there and what the capabilities are, you're probably getting left behind. Take reality capture technology, for instance—LIDAR, laser imaging, 3D mapping, photogrammetry—programs that require serious education just to understand how they work, with even more required to successfully apply them to a project. But as challenging as it may be for a contractor to fully learn and embrace the evolution of technologies like those, the best ones still do—because it's worth it. We produce the research and put on the events that we do because we want to streamline that educational and adoption process. What technologies are out there and who's making them? Which ones do what, how, and are they effective? These are the questions we're asking and the conversations we're having. If you want to specifically learn more about reality capture, check out our 'Reality Redefined: Advancing Construction Through Innovative Capture Techniques' panel slated for our upcoming Construction Tech Conference in Chicago. In the discussion, BuiltWorlds Research Analyst Audrey Lynch will lead a discussion with experts David Gaw from Sensera Systems, Zachary Johnson from Nabholz Corporation, Daniel Meissner from EllisDon, and Joe Glynn from Clune Construction Company that will explore the various technologies available as well as uses and possibilities in reshaping construction workflows and stakeholder collaboration. We were honored to welcome Dai Ohama, general manager of Kajima's Innovation and Incubation Office, to our offices here in Chicago today! Dai has long been a good friend to BuiltWorlds, and it's an absolute pleasure every time he's able to drop by. We were lucky and thankful to not only be able to give Dai a warm welcome today, but to also present him (as a representative for Kajima) with a Global Innovator Award. For those few unfamiliar with Kajima, it was founded in 1840 and is headquartered in Motoakasaka, Minato, Tokyo. The company currently has 19,000-plus employees, operates in more than 20 countries, and boasts an annual revenue of over $20 billion. Kajima specializes in constructing a wide range of buildings including commercial, residential, and institutional structures, all utilizing advanced technologies and techniques for high-rise and earthquake-resistant construction. They also undertake notable civil engineering projects such as nuclear power plants, highways, and airports. In early August 2023, Kajima officially launched The GEAR: Kajima Lab for Global Engineering, Architecture, and Real Estate. The lab will serve as a regional headquarters for the company in Singapore as well as a hub for research, development, and innovation. While we congratulated Dai and Kajima today in person, we'd also like to take the time now to do it publicly. So, congratulations and well deserved! One of the unique features of BuiltWorlds' conferences is our Demo Day (or Night) Competitions, in which AEC-focused tech startups take the stage and pitch their innovations to a panel of expert judges. For the presenters, who field questions and receive feedback in real time, it can be a thrilling albeit nerve-wracking process (not to mention an opportunity to showcase themselves and their company to a live audience). For the audience, it's a ready-made scouting report into the industry's newest tech. While all of our Demo Competitions are exciting and insightful, the one we've planned for our upcoming Paris Summit (T-minus 11 days and counting) is going to be particularly so. Why? 1. We have an exceptionally large, exceptionally impressive roster of both presenters (10) and judges (9)—which always makes for rich competition. Presenters: WakeCap, LiveCosts, Emidat, DataForm Lab, PrīmX, Alrik, ConcR | Smart Monitoring, Kontrad, Cassette, and GScan Judges: Jorge Gomis (CRH Ventures), Arnaud de Scorbiac (ISAI), Nick Gosen (KOMPAS VC), Raymond Levitt (Blackhorn Ventures), Ilmar Norvik (Owens Corning), Tanja Kufner (Nemetschek Group), Aaron Toppston (GS Futures), Allen Preger (Building Ventures), and Karim Abdel-Ghaffar Plaza (Westerly Winds) 2. This year's Demo Night in Paris is being hosted by Bouygues Construction at its headquarters, nicknamed Challenger—which we find very apropos, considering how historically and famously innovative the company has been. 3. Edward Bouygues will open the competition with welcoming remarks. 4. For the first time ever, we will be livestreaming our Demo Competition free to the public. So register today: https://lnkd.in/gkyAQ95f Good luck to our presenters and judges! We'll see you in Paris!

It's easy enough to speak and speculate about AI's potential to change the construction industry, but how much does it really accomplish for you today? We talk about AI not just as an exciting concept and disruptor, but as a tool that construction companies need to be learning and applying today.

#AI felt very real after 2 days of BuiltWorlds Sessions! Some quick notes from the conference: - Joined the AI conversation at Thornton Tomasetti with Robert Otani presenting the big picture goals with AI and the future of engineering: 'Why adopt AI? To share expertise, share knowledge, and create new services.' - Panel Discussion insight: Not adopting AI today could mean no business in 5 years. - Key Theme: AI won't take your job, but the guy who uses AI will. - New tech ideas presented for a venture capital jury, focusing on carbon footprint, energy analysis, and drone products for energy savings through automated building exterior diagnostics and more... The following day, I was part of a morning panel discussing how technology is shaping design, construction, and operation processes. Main takeaway: Change starts from the top. Owners and developers need to know what to ask for to avoid project delays, financial losses, and missed opportunities. Topics covered included: - Digital Twin Tools: Purpose and applications. - Carbon Reduction Ideas through materials and processes. - Emphasis on AI integration and its impact on the industry. As much as we try to showcase on social media all the research, interviews, events, news, and more that we're producing day in and day out, there is simply no way to do that effectively. We'd be the bane of every timeline, on every platform. Still, there's valuable content and opportunities to be had, and we don't want anyone in the AEC industry to miss out on something that may lead them to better overall business outcomes—which brings us to our newsletters. On Tuesdays, we deliver updates on the AEC-related Venture & Finance space directly to your inbox. On Wednesdays, we alternate between BuildingTech & Sustainability and AI/Machine Learning. And on Thursdays, it's all the latest on ConstructionTech. All areas of the our industry that are rapidly evolving.
