In May, Hively VPs Mona Attia-Shirk and CANDIDA DUPERROIR headed to our nation’s capital for the 2024 Child Care Aware of America Symposium to advocate for a strong child care workforce. There is much to celebrate for what has been accomplished since the Child Care & Development Block Grant (CCDBG) was reauthorized a decade ago. Federal funding for child care is now seen as both work support for families and an investment in healthy and safe child development and learning. At this year’s symposium, advocates were asked to grapple with questions for the road ahead as a “fundamentally broken business model continues to hold us back from achieving a high-quality child care system for every family who needs it.” At Hively, our work continues… to ensure high quality child care and a strong provider workforce. Thank you to our US Congressmen Eric Swalwell and Mark Desaulnier for your continued support. #Hively #BeHively #WeAreHively

Dan Palotta’s Ted Talk has 5,582,965 views. His documentary "Uncharitable" presents the reality and challenges nonprofits have to navigate, day-to-day, in order to create impact around the world. Last week, Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance offered a thought-provoking event, giving local nonprofits the opportunity to watch the documentary and then listen to a fireside chat between Dan Palotta and TVNPA CEO Kathy Young. Hively leadership attendees Mary Hekl, Elaine Lenore, and Maria O. Alvarez were inspired by the talk and thankful for the opportunity to come together with other members of the Tri-Valley nonprofit community. Here were our key takeaways: -Donors only want to fund “programs,” not the administrative costs needed to run them. They ignore that there are many "costs" that make a program successful, including the salaries and benefits of the staff who execute the programs. -Nonprofits are often punished for talking about regular business expenses such as rent, utilities, insurance, legal support fees, salaries, etc. -Marketing, publicity and other promotional types of expenses are encouraged and celebrated in the For-Profit sector. But when nonprofits invest in spreading the word about their mission and life-changing work, they are critiqued and scrutinized. A positive and impactful change requires a bold vision and capable, experienced team members to make big dreams become reality. Thanks Tri-Valley Nonprofit Alliance for bringing us together for this important discussion! #Hively #BeHively #WeAreHively
