On Monday, the BeaconMedaes First V football team gathered at Power League, Nottingham, as part of our commitment to fundraising for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.   The event, hosted and organised by Chesterfield's Mortgage 1st, brought teams from Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Nottingham together to compete in a Five-a-Side tournament, with all raised funds being donated to the hospice.   Under our newly revised volunteer policy, staff from across the divisions joined together under the Beacon Medaes badge to battle it out on the pitch for a place in the final. Once the team got going, they were unstoppable - we made it through the group stages and took on our hosts, Mortgage 1st, in the quarter finals. It was a tense game that ended on a draw, leading to the dreaded penalties. We almost couldn't watch as our rivals kicked the ball into the back of the net. The ref hadn't signalled, so it was disallowed. The second attempt sailed over the crossbar. Our first penalty also missed, but our second found the back of the net and we were through to the semifinals! Unfortunately, this is where our time in the tournament ended, and our loss meant we were not in line for any silverware this time - but there’s always next year!   Special thanks go to Daniel Durrant, Paul Thwaites, Harry Jessop, Rohan Manan, Daniel Gibbons, Dan Churchill, Neil Bull, Daniel James and Sam Cartlidge-Webster for attending and committing 100% to the event. This is the first time any of the staff had played together, and we think the team's going to go from strength to strength, ready for next year's tournament ⚽ 🥅 

Our support of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice kicks off next week (literally!), when the BeaconMedaes First V joins other teams in the Mortgage 1st Charity Five-a-Side Football Tournament, being held in aid of the hospice.     Technical Support Engineer Harry Jessop and Year in Industry student Rohan Manan are pictured below wearing the new Beacon Medaes kit, which is also available for anyone who feels like having a kickabout with work colleagues as part of our staff wellbeing programme.     It’s great to be part of the Mortgage 1st fundraiser – we’re looking forward to organising and participating in lots more events over the next twelve months.   Right, time to head off for the warm up…⚽

We're always working on new ways to improve the service we bring our customers. As part of this, we've introduced a new financial management system - SAP. After months of deep dives, audits, data cleansing, preparations and not forgetting the hours of training, SAP went live last Friday. In true BeaconMedaes style, we celebrated with a party! Undeterred by the cloudy weather, the team gathered outside our offices to enjoy a barbeque to thank everyone for working so diligently during the rollout.   Under the Atlas Copco Together programme (ACT!), we have been guided through the implementation by colleagues from around the world. All our Customer Centres are now globally using the same SAP / ACT! platform, which brings significant advantages and synergies.

Not long to go until the European Healthcare Design 2024 event, being held at the Royal College of Physicians in London, 10th-12th June. Mark Lakey and Paul O. from BeaconMedaes UK will be on Stand 4 to discuss the wide range of turnkey medical gas pipeline services we offer. Many of our team raise money for local charities, and we're very proud of the work they do to help others. We've told you before about Senior Buyer Graham Weighill and his daredevil wing walk for Ashgate Hospice. This time, his #fundraising took place on terra firma, as earlier this month he and his wife Paula pulled a 70ft long narrowboat, weighing over 10 tons, along the Chesterfield Canal in aid of Rotary Charities. After Storm Kathleen and the expectation of strong winds forced their first attempt to be postponed, the weather was set to be fair for another pull on Sunday 5 May. It was a very appropriate date, following Star Wars Day, as the Force was definitely with them! In bright sunshine, Graham and Paula gathered at Shireoaks Marina just before 10am for a safety briefing. Volunteers from Chesterfield Canal Trust manoeuvred the Dawn Rose out of her mooring and onto the canal, and the challenge began. Congratulations on another successful - and creative! - fundraising event, Graham 👏
