I was scrolling through TikTok today and came across a video of a woman who shared a story about being passed over for a high-level job because she did not wear makeup to the interview. All other aspects of her appearance were professional, including her outfit and hair. Upon asking for feedback, the recruiter shared that although the woman had all the qualifications for the position and performed well in the interview, the employer passed on her candidacy because they thought she had not "put in enough effort in her appearance." Is it fair to assess a woman's professionalism solely based on her makeup choices, or does this evaluation veer into sexist territory? I'm interested to hear your perspective.
