    Michael Wiseman, Vice President of Engineering, ARC Group Worldwide, Longmont, Colorado, accepted two Awards of Distinction in the Miliary/Firearms for Metal Injection Molding (MIM) components category in the 2023 Powder Metallurgy Design Excellence Awards Competition.   The first award was given for an S-7 tool steel locking block housed within the lower receiver of a semi-automatic pistol for securing and stabilizing movement of the slide and barrel.   The second award was given for a pistol slide stop used on a modern pistol to hold the slide open when the magazine is empty, or the user needs to open the action.   He accepted the awards for his company at PowderMet2023: International Conference on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials in Las Vegas, Nevada.   MIM is one of the powder metallurgy-based technologies that forms metal powders into precision components used in applications such as auto engines and transmissions, hardware, industrial machinery, sporting goods, medical, defense, and firearms.   The competition is sponsored annually by the Metal Powder Industries Federation, an international trade association for the metal powder producing and consuming industries. #MIM #powdermetallurgy #advancedmanufacturing #PickPM #technology #advancedmanufacturing #innovation #creativity

    Check out another ARC Group Worldwide Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) 2023 Award of Distinction for a pistol slide stop. Prior to MIM processing this part was assembled from multiple pieces or machined. The MIM process provides a single, net-shape part that does not require any machining.     Check out another ARC Group Worldwide Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) 2023 Award of Distinction for an S-7 tool steel locking block housed within the lower receiver of a semi-automatic pistol for securing and stabilizing movement of the slide and barrel. The locking block is a critical component of a 9-mm semi-automatic pistol and provides stability and support of the slide and barrel during actuation. The part is housed within a polymer frame that utilizes a single-action striker-fired trigger mechanism.
