An Evening to Remember: Celebrating Aerospace Excellence Friday night’s 27th Annual Gala hosted by the Maryland Space Business Roundtable (MSBR) at Bowie State University was nothing short of spectacular. The event, spearheaded by MSBR President Dennis Feerick, set the stage for an evening filled with inspiration and recognition. We had the privilege of listening to Congressman Glenn Ivey from Maryland’s 4th District. The opportunity to engage with leaders from #NASA and #NOAA was particularly enriching, fostering conversations that bridged the gap between space exploration and our daily lives. These gatherings are always close to my heart, providing a moment to reconnect with long-time friends and esteemed colleagues. Their intelligence is matched only by their humility, leaving me in constant admiration. A highlight of the evening was hearing from Milton Davis, the pioneer behind the Future Innovators (FIREWORKS) program. His initiative to “IGNITE the passion” in under-represented youth for STEM and STEAM fields is commendable. Kudos to you, Milton, for your impactful work. The presentation of the MSBR Annual Awards by Dennis and Mina Samii was a testament to the talent within our community. A heartfelt congratulations to Tracey Bien-Aime for securing the #STEM Star Award—her dedication to empowering the next generation is truly inspiring. Applause echoed for Columbus Technologies and Services and Northrop Grumman as they received the #Constellation Award. Acceptance speeches by Ajay Handa and Jay Patel were poignant reminders of the collaborative spirit that drives our industry forward. I am deeply honored to have been presented with the #LifetimeAchievement Award. Sharing this milestone with my Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) family and expressing gratitude to individuals like John Abrams Mauricio Peredo Richard Cebula Robin M Kovach, PMP Sterling Spangler, PMP Janine Good, CFCM, CPCM Erika Washam Kusum Sahu and my Lynker colleagues Joe Linza Anthony Maranto Kevin Donnelly was incredibly meaningful. A special thanks to Bhavana Rakesh for joining us at our table. The evening was beautifully capped off with the melodic tunes of The Jazz Experience. I am excited to share that last night I received an award for best student paper at the Nuclear and Emerging Technologies for Space (NETS) 2024 conference. My paper was titled Coupled Reactor and Engine Nuclear Thermal Propulsion Modeling Methodology and looked into methods for connecting NTP Monte-Carlo neutron transport simulations to a system analysis code to account for reactor multiphysics feedback at a system level. I'm taking this award as massive praise because the bar was set very high by my student peers at NETS 2024. There were so many great presentations this year! I also need to throw praise towards my co-authors, Daria Nikitaeva, Corey D Smith, and Matthew Duchek for their support during this work. Also, special thanks to the American Nuclear Society for putting on a great event. Thank you!
