Many thanks to New Smyrna Beach Utilities and all the #utilities that answered the call and helped restore power in the Florida panhandle! #MutualAid #PublicPower #CommunityPowered
We are proud of our NSBU team members who answered the call for mutual aid from other Florida utilities. They left their families to help those in need when strong storms hit the panhandle earlier this month. They exemplify the type of people we need to keep Public Power great! NSBU was paired up with a team from Jacksonville Beach, and together they rebuilt a critical line from the ground up to get customers back in service. The crew worked 16 hours per day to safely meet their goal. Thank you and great work! 👏👏👏

U.S. Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) and other House Democrats are urging the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service to finalize rules that will enable not-for-profit entities like community-owned #utilities to benefit from the #clean energy tax credits created by the Inflation Reduction Act. The letter received significant support from stakeholders in clean energy technology in #PublicPower utilities and electric cooperatives, Chu’s office noted. https://ow.ly/2jHQ50RUgmf

May is #WildfireAwarenessMonth in many western states and communities, and we'll soon enter the season when the threat is greatest to communities and infrastructure. APPA has curated a collection of resources to assist #utilities in crafting their #wildfire mitigation plans. Wildfire mitigation planning is crucial for #PublicPower utilities to ensure the resilience and reliability of electricity supply, reduce risks and associated costs, enhance public safety, and comply with regulatory standards. The Smart Energy Provider (SEP) Review Panel convened for their semiannual meeting this week at APPA's office in Arlington, Virginia, to score applications and conduct program business. Our SEP designation helps utilities show their commitment to and proficiency in #energyefficiency, distributed energy resources, #renewableenergy, and environmental initiatives. Currently, 97 #PublicPower utilities hold the SEP designation. New SEP designees will be announced in October at our Customer Connections Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
