This is what legend looks like. During a remarkable 54-year career, our Vice President Robin Cababa has established himself as an adored leader and dedicated mentor. His contributions to engineering and environmental stewardship have received widespread acclaim — and, most recently, the Goethals Medal from the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). Leadership and engineering excellence go hand-in-hand for Robin. From commanding the U.S. Army Engineer and Research Development Center (ERDC) to spearheading some of AECOM’s most complex environmental programs, including the U.S. Navy’s Pacific CLEAN program, he’s established himself as a skilled, visionary leader in all his endeavors. Robin also demonstrated a dedication to developing and mentoring the next generation of industry leaders, including implementing an immersive two-year AECOM onboarding program in the Pacific and numerous mentoring programs outside AECOM that are focused on helping military veterans. As a veteran himself, Robin has received numerous honors, including a Purple Heart and Silver Star for valor. Read more about Robin’s life and career: https://lnkd.in/eTxWquz6 #AECOM #AECOMCareers

Today’s People Spotlight features Murray Coburn, a graduate engineer from our Water business line in the United Kingdom.    As a high schooler, Murray was inspired to pursue a career in engineering after witnessing the construction of a flood defense project to protect his hometown from floods while creating new public spaces. Today, he specializes in hydraulic modeling and flood risk assessment, working on projects that help vulnerable communities minimize the effects of flood events.    Most recently, he worked on developing mitigation solutions to reduce flooding in the town of Dunkeld, Scotland. After conducting public consultations and proposing solutions, such as the creation of flood walls, earth embankments and culvert upgrades, his team’s work helped to reduce the town’s flood risk from an annual probability of 50 percent to 2 percent — and raised greater awareness and education on flood resilience among the town’s residents.    “It is sometimes easy to lose track of the true reason and purpose of your work,” he writes. “This is a sobering reminder of its importance and is just one of many ways my work helps in delivering a better world.”    Read more about his work: https://lnkd.in/eRg4uBwd   #AECOM #AECOMVoices #PeopleSpotlight #Water #Environment #Sustainability

Today’s People Spotlight features Meegan Worcester, a graduate sustainability consultant from our Environment business line in the United Kingdom.    Meegan’s interest in sustainability stems from her experience growing up in car-centric spaces. Seeing an over-reliance on cars, limited pedestrian infrastructure and a lack of public transport compelled her to study how to build a more livable, sustainable built environment. Today, she utilizes her expertise through a wide range of projects focusing on carbon management, sustainable infrastructure and climate resilience.    Recently, she has been working with a global FTSE 250 company to determine science-based targets for nature (SBTNs), providing a structure and approach to evaluating their environmental impact. As part of this project, she had a hand in writing their deforestation policy, ensuring that it aligns with current and forthcoming standards and best practices, and maximizing its long-term positive impact on the client’s farmers, suppliers, and affected local communities. “Sustainability frameworks and methodologies can overlap with one another, which can be confusing and complicated for the client,” she writes. “It is important that we communicate this understanding and identify where they have already gathered appropriate information. This will prevent duplicating work and help build on any gaps.”    Read more about her work: https://lnkd.in/epG5u7rV   #AECOM #AECOMVoices #PeopleSpotlight #Water #Environment #Sustainability

We are delighted to have collaborated on the 23rd Serpentine Pavilion, which opens for the public on Friday, June 7, 2024, serving as Technical Advisor for the twelfth year and our third year as Project Manager. Titled ‘Archipelagic Void’, this latest installment was designed by Seoul-based Korean architect Minsuk Cho and his firm Mass Studies.   “We are honored and grateful to unveil Archipelagic Void in June,” said Cho. “To realize the Pavilion, we began by asking what can be uncovered and added to the Serpentine site, which has already featured over twenty historical iterations at the center of the lawn, from a roster of great architects and artists.”   Archipelagic Void consists of a void at the center of five distinct ‘islands’, the layout referencing the madang – an open courtyard found in traditional Korean houses. Each of the five surrounding structures is unique in terms of size, shape, name and purpose, providing a dedicated platform for Serpentine’s live program from June onwards for the public to enjoy.   Read more about this project here: https://lnkd.in/eqQpawmA Photo: Iwan Baan | Courtesy: Serpentine   #SerpentinePavilion #MinsukCho #Architecture
