About us
The ACLU is an non-profit, non-partisan organization of people who believe in the power of action. We are united by the quest – “We the people dare to create a more perfect union.” Whether in the courts, statehouses, Congress or communities, we fight to defend the rights that the Constitution guarantees to all of us —regardless of who we are, where we come from, whom we love, or what we believe. Together, we take up the toughest civil rights and liberties challenges of our time. We seek to inspire those who want change to become the ones who make change.

We're launching our 2024 election memo series, breaking down what we expect the impact of a second Trump or second Biden administration will be on civil rights and civil liberties, and how we're prepared to face them. No matter who is in the White House, we’re ready to use the full force of the ACLU to defend our most fundamental freedoms.

For 3 years, the Affordable Connectivity Program kept more than 20 million households connected to the internet. Now, the ACP is out of funding and millions of people, particularly people in marginalized communities, are left without affordable internet access. Congress can act now to ensure no household is shut out of the online world.

NEW: We filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission against Aon for deceptively marketing their online hiring assessments as “bias-free,” even though the tests likely discriminate against people based on characteristics like race or disability. Employers should not use online hiring products falsely claiming to be bias free that still carry a high risk of discrimination.

Times Square Billboards declined to run our ad supporting abortion rights, considering it "too political." That won't stop us from saying what we know is true: Abortion is ESSENTIAL. Reproductive freedom is a RIGHT.
