Just imagine: a forum with 500 members but only 2 people are creating content for the group. I prefer to read a book. So be sure the group is active. And if it is, then ensure you're active as well.

Today I read the following post: "If you dress well at BSides, people think you are a VC/marketing person and no one will talk to you. If you dress down at RSA, people will think you are an engineer looking for a job and no one will talk to you." Events are my all-time preferred way to engage with InfoSec mates. But chose carefully because not all events are the same. RSA, BSides, InfoSecurity, BlackHat,... all them have interesting professionals attending, question is: what type of professional are you?

Join social media groups which are having professional discussions. They will share events and conferences in most cases and you may attend them not to only to gain experience but also to build a network.

Absolutely Right ! Joining dedicated groups or communities focused on information security topics on platforms like LinkedIn, Telegram or Discord can be valuable. Active participation.. such as contributing to discussions.. sharing relevant content ..and engaging with others' posts, helps build connections and maintain your presence in the community...These groups are excellent resources for finding mentorship and learning from others.. experiences, and discovering new career opportunities.

Security groups and communities are extremely important for sharing experiences. We currently see many young professionals, starting their security journey, joining groups where people support, share opportunities, content and help with the career development of everyone there.

Networking is a critical component of professional success. I have always been grateful to those who came and contributed to my cybersecurity journey. I am constantly growing and have been networking extensively. Getting involved in cybersecurity communities in person and through various platforms such as Reddit, LinkedIN Groups, WhatsApp, events, CTF events, seminars, and webinars will undoubtedly expose you to the elite professionals working in this field. It opens up new horizons. Especially when you are young and novice, networking is a fundamental aspect that helps you grow professionally. Because by asking for perspective, guidance, sharing experiences, and guiding others, you are sowing the seeds of networking. 🙌
