What do you do if community needs change and urban planners need to adapt?

Building trust with residents is critical. Open forums, workshops, and surveys allow residents to voice concerns, suggest solutions, and feel invested in the planning process. Additionally, data collection through surveys and focus groups helps planners understand demographics, transportation needs, and preferred amenities. Establishing citizen advisory committees further strengthens the bond with residents, ensuring plans reflect their values and address specific needs. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of ownership and leads to more sustainable and equitable solutions.

People­ who plan cities should do better research. The­y need to know what the pe­ople want. They must talk to the pe­ople who live there­. They must talk to the people­ who work there. They must talk to pe­ople who know a lot about city plans. After they know what the­ people want, the city planne­rs can make new rules. The­y can make new buildings and roads to make pe­ople happy. The plans must change whe­n people's wants change.

Absolutely, there is no one recipe or readymade prescription to do a good urban achievement for users. In whatever design process and whatever context, builders, stakeholders and designers must acknowledge that they are developing the cradle of life of others not their own living rooms, they must move aside their ego and the self to let users decide their own daily environment and expectations.

My concern is with history and heritage. I would try to understand the effects of this transition on the historic settlement. I would suggest new legislation concerning the adaptation of the settlement to this new setting. Residents should be informed of heritage, and of the importance of historical hard evidence of their culture alive.

One of the most important things Planners should always put in practice is listening to the community members. Engage them and include them in discussions relating to new developments. This foresters an active community, creates a good working relationship between community members and Planners, and ultimately contributes to the success of projects. Planners should also take note that we won't be able to please everyone in the community, all we need is a majority of satisfied community to implement projects.

Engaging locals without judgement might be vulnerable. While the morals of maximum in the community are down, their humane education is not up to the mark, while the locals have incomplete, distorted views regarding environment - urban planners should consider engagement of every local - more politically.

Engaging people in urban planning is very important since the local community is the main stakeholder and a great beneficiary of the plan so if the plan fails they will be the one to suffer eg construction of roads in a flood Zone area this will cause trouble during rainful and so transportation problems arise so engaging the local people who knows the area better will help even in decision making before planning

Interaction on an ongoing basis is vital but not only with those affected by the planning but also stakeholders, community based organizations, business organizations and the greater public even beyond what appears to be the impact scope of the plan. One should not limit the range and scope of the outreach. Indeed, a communication strategy should be incorporated as part of the planning effort keeping in mind that planning reflects change and change is always cause for concern and questions by those directly and indirectly impacted. One always needs to be prepared to adapt and adjust as well as spend the time necessary to respond to any concerns, issues, fears which are expressed.

If community planners have to ask these kind of pointless convoluted questions then they need to rethink their area of expertise and do something else like start a brewery or a travel company because at least I hope they know which cities are the best to study and travel to because those cities have great ideas on improving quality of life, sustainability of cities and what makes a happy city.
