5G is revolutionizing the telecommunications due to its advanced technical capabilities, offering unprecedented speed, low latency, and high capacity. Technically, 5G achieves speeds up to 10 Gbps, which is 100 times faster than 4G, by utilizing a wider spectrum, including millimeter waves that provide more bandwidth. Its potential ultra-low latency of few millisecond will enable real-time applications such as factory automation and autonomous driving. For example, in smart cities, 5G supports massive IoT deployments, allowing thousands of sensors to communicate simultaneously without congestion. Network slicing allows operators to create multiple virtual networks tailored to specific applications, ensuring optimal performance
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of physical devices connected to the internet, collecting and sharing data. In telecommunications, IoT can be a game-changer for you by enabling smarter infrastructure and providing valuable data analytics. By integrating IoT solutions, you can optimize network performance, create new user experiences, and open up additional revenue streams through innovative services and applications.

In today's Telecom landscape it's all about working together in an open environment to create an ecosystem where everyone can learn, share and progress innovation. R&D incubation labs and working together with academia and Small, Medium Enterprise (SMEs) is essential in being able to cultivate next gen ideas and implementations. I have worked to help build these initial labs and lead projects in pioneering network automation capabilities to help propel innovation forward and it's amazing to be able to work together to foster growth and knowledge amongst peers. For many corporations it's about funding and resources but innovation needs to be a priority to establish open collaboration, creating solutions that better our daily lives.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the way telecommunication companies operate. By incorporating AI into your services, you can automate routine tasks, enhance customer service through chatbots, and predict network failures before they occur. AI can also help in personalizing customer experiences and optimizing resource allocation, ensuring that you stay ahead in the rapidly changing telecom landscape.

I consider AI the mesh that will make telecommunications ubiquitous - both from basic task automation to end-to-end closed loop network automation. LLMs and NLPs have forever changed the landscape we live in where Telcos and Enterprise Industry are converging to provide customized end user experiences at edge locations. Working with teams to help implement Gen AI for enhanced case summarizations, chatbots, predictive maintenance enables time to be saved which helps prevent outages and focus on the customer. In order to satisfy the real-time network and customer requirements demands working with AI to help transform networks. AI enablement has just begun and as long as there are standards for ethical AI in place, skies the limit!!

As a product manager, there is always that fine line that needs to be thread with Innovation when managing a road map. When I managed a roadmap, carving out requirements to advance innovative initiatives was crucial. There will always be technical debt that needs to be addressed but having strategic foresight to plan 3, 5 or even 10 years ahead is critical to identify emerging trends, anticipate market shifts and ensure long term product relevancy. Having started my career in telecom R&D and worked for decades in the industry, change has become ingrained in my DNA - with every new 3GPP standard released, new SW and HW requirements need to be maintained. 6G will bring AI-native as a baseline, propelling innovation to the next level.

Several other aspects are relevant when embracing the new world of Telco networks: 1. Cloud: Radio, Core, OSSBSS are rapidly adopting cloud principles and architectures which allows for a better performance and use of resources. This is a key underlying aspect of all technologies affecting Telco networks. 2. Network exposure and programmable networks: With a Cloud driven architecture, the aim is to make Telco networks programmable but also to be able to expose more capabilities to developers in order to build applications. Initiatives like CAMARA API, are moving Telcos in to building "network as a platform" that can be used by others to create more value.
