The 3D printing community is very welcoming for new people entering this fantastic area, join some groups and ask questions. There are many open source 3D CAD packages available and that's a great way to develop some design skills and familiarity with the design for 3D printing process. Buying a 3D printer needs some consideration, that will depend on what you intend to use it for, what materials you may need and if it's for home, office or production manufacturing. Most desktop machines are limited to thermoplastic or resin, it'll be some time before we are all metal 3D printing unfortunately. Today a powerful network is becoming more and more important. Especially in a quite young environment, which appears to 3d printing in my eyes, where still lot's of things are moving and we are still speaking about a niche industry. We do not have enough specialists on the market and education is still not on a level where it could be. This means you need to have a good network in order to connect to professionals which are open to support "youngsters" and guide them a little bit. On top, in this environment there is still a high potential for good jobs and lot's of career opportunities,but it's good to know exactly where to apply or to whom to speak - means again networking. I wish you lot's of success in preparing your own network!
