When you're starting with photo editing software, it's crucial to get comfortable with the basics. This means familiarizing yourself with the user interface and where to find the most commonly used tools, such as crop, brightness and contrast adjustments, and filters. Experiment with these fundamental features to understand how they affect your photos. Play around with different settings to see how subtle changes can dramatically alter the mood and composition of your images. Remember, mastery begins with a solid foundation, so take your time to learn these core functions thoroughly.

First of all, you need to master editing basic settings such as light and color. Even such simple settings will help you significantly improve the appearance of the image, since in this way you will remove highlights and dips in the shadows and more details will be visible in the photo. It is very important to adjust the white balance as it affects the appearance of all the colors in the photo. Also study such simple tools as a brush, a spot healing brush, a stamp, and consider all the settings for these tools in the top panel of Photoshop. A little practice and you will understand how to use these tools.

Mastering photo editing software like Photoshop and Lightroom as well as Camera Raw, is crucial for any photographer aiming to elevate their work. My journey began with learning from YouTube tutorials, I started learning the basics just as I started my photographic journey. Understanding the function of each slider—and whites vs highlights and shadows vs blacks, and how and how they effect your image is crucial. It's vital to grasp the basics first and then continually update your skills. Start with reputable online tutorials, then practice relentlessly. Remember, sharpening your skills before diving into projects is like sharpening an axe—essential for effective results.

Once you have a grasp on the basics, you're ready to explore more advanced tools. Layers and masks are powerful features that allow for non-destructive editing, meaning you can make changes without permanently altering the original image. Understanding how to use histograms can also help you make more informed adjustments to exposure and contrast. Dive into selective color correction to bring out the best in your landscapes or portraits. By building on your foundational knowledge with these advanced techniques, you can start to develop a more nuanced approach to your editing workflow.

Follow 3 basic rules: 1- Practice 2- Practice 3- Practice more Most of the people I've met throughout the years have told me they fear making mistakes in Photography and consequently, making mistakes in their post production skills, such as image processing and retouching. There are many courses out there, but the main thing is for you to be fearless. Make mistakes, learn. Improve here and there by changing a few things on the way, checking how other people do and also by finding your own way of getting it right. I've been using Photoshop since v1.0, and the software itself has evolved so much in 30 years that very few people in the planet would be able to master it.

Once you've mastered the basics, it's time to move to advanced stuff. Experiment with adjustment layers and blending modes to have better control of the look of your photos without affecting the original quality. then test with sharpening and noise reduction to enhance image clarity and quality but don't do too much of it or you'll achieve the opposite. Try curves and levels to fine-tune brightness, contrast, and color balance with precision. But the key to mastering editing is trial and error, so try as much as you can, and as often as you can.

Da werden alle Änderungen unwiderruflich fest verankert, also eher destruktiv...
Efficiency is key when it comes to editing large batches of photos. Learning keyboard shortcuts for your most-used actions can save a significant amount of time. Many software programs allow you to customize these shortcuts, so you can tailor them to your workflow. Additionally, creating presets for frequently used settings or looks can streamline your process. By becoming more efficient with these time-saving tricks, you'll be able to focus more on the creative aspects of editing rather than getting bogged down by repetitive tasks.

As a photoshop, lightroom, expert. I may say shortcut will make your work very very easy. In my first experiences I was using the settings on the tools bar one by one till I get tired from it. Now the work I used to take 4 hours in it became 1 hours thanks to shortcut and practice.

You have the fundamentals down, so now comes the speed! Keyboard shortcuts are a must when it comes to editing. Adding layers, filters, changing tools, and so many other cool thing can all be achieved by just a few key combinations! As you learn them work to, as a mac user, command+S them to memory.
Editing software offers endless creative possibilities, and exploring these can be incredibly rewarding. Try out different blending modes to achieve unique effects or use brush tools for precise adjustments. Experiment with text and graphic overlays to add an artistic touch to your photos. Don't be afraid to push boundaries and try new things – sometimes the most striking images come from unexpected combinations of tools and techniques. Let your creativity flow and use the software as a canvas for your photographic vision.
Improving your editing skills is a continuous process that benefits greatly from constructive critique. Share your edited photos with trusted peers or photography groups and be open to feedback. Look at before-and-after comparisons of your own work to assess your progress and identify areas for improvement. Additionally, studying the work of photographers you admire can provide inspiration and insight into different editing styles and techniques. By actively seeking out critique and learning opportunities, you'll refine your skills and develop a more critical eye for editing.

Criticism is your absolute best friend! Sure our job is subjective, but there are general rules. Asking someone you admire to look at your work is a great path to improvement. Please don't get discouraged if you don't like what you hear, because just like real friends, a good critique will tell you what you need to hear, and not what you want to hear.
