A common mistake made by various organizations is running various systems in one organization.... Having a sound systems understanding other than simply an HR system is very beneficial and can facilitate integrating various processes including HR processes .... being able to generate reports from these systems is also very beneficial ... especially if you can generate reports outside of the generic/ standards reports housed on the various systems. Of all competencies mentioned, I think this is KEY. HR staff and management, esp. the really tenured ones, in my experience, have shown to have gotten desensitized to day to day HR dealings that they “forget” who and what they are there for - the people… ensure that they are treated fairly within the organization. Versus that, I’ve seen that some HR groups have leaned more towards the safest, least costly route for the company (labor-law wise), vs. a balanced and fair treatment of incidents reported. Great for the company. But highly discouraging to the employees. Once an employee experiences that, the entire organization ceases to be a safe environment for the employee anymore.

If you don't have integrity, you really shouldn't even be in the game. Real integrity connects your values with the values of the organization and ultimately looks at the best interest of the workers that you are serving. We need to prioritize their well-being their goals and their ambitions and put those in line with the goals of the organization. This requires balance it requires strategy and it requires a good amount of ethos. These are humans that we are dealing with, that's why it's called human resources. And I think transparent integrity goes beyond mere ethics and doing the right thing, it's being the right voice and driving people in the right direction.
