In my organization, I see my role as a leader is to establish left and right boundaries for my team. My team is empowered to operate as they need to within their boundaries, but are encouraged to think beyond them. The last team that I led operated incredibly efficiently in that manner. When my team felt stuck on a problem, but was still within their boundaries, I encouraged them in their problem solving by asking leading questions to help them learn that they can operate on their own within those boundaries. Most times, they knew the answer already. Operating in this manner helped me show them that I trust them to do their job and that they don’t need to consult me before making decisions within their boundaries.
