What are the most user-friendly online networking platforms for professionals new to remote work?
Transitioning to remote work can be a significant shift, especially when it comes to networking. Without the physical spaces and events where you might have previously met peers and mentors, you're likely seeking online platforms that are not only effective but also user-friendly. Networking is a critical skill for professional growth, and finding the right platforms can help ease the transition and foster connections that could lead to new opportunities, collaborations, or simply valuable insights into your industry.

As you delve into online networking, a platform that stands out for its simplicity and professional focus is one that operates like a virtual resume and professional social media combined. Here, you can create a detailed profile showcasing your work experience, skills, and education. Networking is as easy as connecting with other professionals, joining industry-specific groups, and participating in discussions. This platform also allows you to follow companies and influencers, keeping you updated on industry trends and job opportunities.

Linkdin is one of my favourite platforms for networking . This is a very genuine one . Throughout the world we can build a professional network. I think we don't need any other platform to build up a professional network.

LinkedIn networking is my favorite! I facilitate LinkedIn for Personal Branding and Networking workshops because I know the importance of using this platform. This platform allows you to meet with people close and far from you and in same and different industries. The reason I believe in using LinkedIn is because of the opportunities. I’ve been recruited, hired, partnered with business owners, gained speaking engagements and consulting opportunities.

If you view LinkedIn as a form of networking rather than a social media channel you'll get a lot more out of it. Engage with people and their posts. Thank people for connecting or engaging with you and use it as a means to build trust - by demonstrating your credibility, consistency and reliability. Share your knowledge and offer value to the business community. You'll soon find that you get a very good return from time spent on the platform.

A key and overlooked feature on LinkedIn is the “search” functionality to narrow down the right people to connect with. Try searching for a key word, then click people, then 2nd and then may adding in a location, city or country to find people to connect with.
Another user-friendly platform hosts virtual events ranging from webinars to full-scale conferences. You can browse a calendar of events tailored to your industry or interests and register with a click. During these events, interactive features such as live chats and Q&A sessions allow you to engage with speakers and other attendees, making it an effective way to expand your professional network from the comfort of your home.

Trying platforms like Circle Networks can offer an easy way to dip your toe into virtual networking. With a free trial 2 week trial it’s a great way to find out what it might offer. Different to just a place for referrals, this is a space to support people in business.
There are online forums dedicated to specific industries or professional interests where you can engage in discussions, ask for advice, and share your knowledge. These platforms typically have a straightforward interface allowing you to navigate through various topics easily. By contributing valuable insights and asking thoughtful questions, you can establish yourself as a knowledgeable professional within these communities.
Some platforms focus on collaboration and project management but also serve as networking spaces. They allow you to work on projects with team members or clients remotely while also providing features to connect and network with other professionals in your field. The user-friendly interface of these tools helps in managing your tasks while also enabling you to build relationships through collaborative efforts.
For more direct interaction, consider platforms that offer robust messaging systems. These allow for real-time communication with your contacts. The interface is usually intuitive, similar to personal messaging apps, but with added professional features such as file sharing and video calls. This can be an excellent way for you to have more personal and immediate conversations with potential mentors, collaborators, or peers.

Rather than the common, connect and spam Dam approach. Use DM’s to thank people who engage with your content. To follow up with people who you’ve met at networking events. Or to take the conversation private after commenting on LinkedIn posts.
Lastly, don't overlook niche networks that cater to specific professions or interests. These platforms often have a more focused user base, making it easier to find and connect with like-minded professionals. The user experience is tailored to the needs of the community, which can make networking more straightforward and relevant to your goals.
