I know this has become an off-hand, cliche term that we throw out to interns and college co-ops, but the truth is, it's never been more-true, than it is right at this very moment! A little research on LinkedIn will show you that those who continually expand, massage, and reinforce their networks, consistently are approached with more job opportunities, chances to partner with others in their field, and typically spend less time being unemployed or between jobs. I know I sound like a broken-record when I bring up the added layer of working in a heavily weighted remote world, but here I am again - UTILIZE LinkedIn daily, and step out of your comfort zone - it will serve you well in the long run!

As a recruiter it is incredibly important to stay tech savvy in your day to day tools but in the tools/technology your team/industries use. This can help in your role by being able to use tools that increase productivity/understanding but also enhance your conversations with hiring managers and candidates in the recruitment process.

The pessimist reminds me that if that is the case, there are also MILLIONS of others doing the exact same thing as you at any given moment. Personal branding can allow you to add an extra layer of authenticity and "uniqueness" to your everyday interactions with candidates, hiring managers, and other recruiters in your field alike. Coming from experience though, I'll warn you it's not easy to cultivate, and even if you have a great way of branding yourself, it will take time to get "reach". Find ways to stand-out, be memorable, and offer content that entices others to interact, and you will be well on your way!

I've come to realize after 11 years in a professional setting that you can do something "great" every once in a while, and it still, in the long run, won't live up to doing something "good" consistently for long stretches at a time. If you are truly wanting to be unique in your approach to recruiting and networking understand that occasionally going to a virtual event, making a few new connections, or commenting on a post on LinkedIn is not going to yield you the results you are probably searching for. Don't be afraid to step out-of-the-box, don't be afraid to fail every once in a while, but most importantly, don't forget to commit with some regular consistency. Be uniquely you and do it EARLY and OFTEN!

The recruiters who are always striving not only to fill the open position as quickly as possible, but also recruit sustainably and maintain a trustful relationship with both sides - with the candidates and with the stake holders/hiring managers, are adding a real value to the selection process and to the company.
