In my experience it goes a couple of ways when dealing with information security. People like us who started out in ICT can leverage that knowledge to apply for ICT jobs. People who went directly into infosec e.g. GRC may find it harder to branch out. Although I have found out that multiple GRC personnel were in the accounting and finance world before moving over as there is an overlap albeit a small one. One of the things that helps is getting that personal project going that you didn't have time for, especially if it's in your field of work. Remember the night does not last forever, all it takes is a helping hand.

I'm catholic, and I'm convinced God guides you all the time. Sadly we're more used to reaching Him when we need supernatural help, not always. Being in contact with Him, let's pray, stay in silence, and search for Him in the churches. He will tell you your next step ;)
