La première nous permet effectivement de mieux comprendre notre interlocuteur, quant à la deuxième elle consiste à ressentir les émotions de l’autre. Il faut veiller à rester dans le domaine de l’empathie cognitive afin de se préserver émotionnellement voire psychologiquement en évitant d’être envahi par des émotions qui ne sont pas nôtres et que nous ne sommes peut être pas à même de gérer.

I agree that empathy is the corner stone in Social Work. Genuinely concerned and willing to support people in the different phases and stages of their lives.

Empathy building is crucial in all walks of life let alone Social Work. It helps us understand others and be compassionate to them. It’s about; 👉🏽listening to understand rather than responding. 👉🏽Putting ourselves in their shoes 👉🏽validating others feelings 👉🏽practise self-reflection 👉🏽engaging in compassionate actions. Without empathy and compassion, social work practice would be dead in its tracks. We work with individuals not bricks.

In my experience, empathy is key when meeting clients and family members. In order to assist clients, you must understand and meet them where they are in their lives.

Tapping into times when you have felt judged and also being open to understanding your own pre-judgments can enhance your empathy practice. It’s a lifelong journey of acceptance, reflection, challenging your own thoughts and ideas and listening without reacting.

Concordo que a empatia é a pedra angular do serviço social, pois nos permite compreender verdadeiramente as experiências e necessidades dos outros. Ao cultivar a empatia, demonstramos cuidado, compreensão, criando um ambiente acolhedor e promovendo a igualdade e a justiça social. Considero que hacer una labor social es una excelente manera de hacer sentir mejor a las personas en situación de vulnerabilidad. Existen muchas posibilidades de ayudar, no es necesario tener demasiado dinero para empezar. Lo más importante es que nos examinemos para determinar de que forma podemos ayudar al prójimo. Ya que siempre habrán seres con tantas carencias que recibir tan siquiera un poco puede generar en ellos un bienestar increíble. Sé puede hacer obras de caridad compartiendo nuestro tiempo, enseñando, escuchando atentamente, con muestras de afecto. Si la economía lo permite siempre es bueno dar más. Recordarles el versículo "esfuérzate y sé valiente, Dios estará contigo a donde quieras que vayas".

Effective communication us important, both formal as well as informal, while amongst the people we should be grounded and try to understand the situation from their perspective while after detailed noting of the situation we must be able to communicate the problems to the relevant stakeholders like the govt policy makers etc

You have to be intentional when communicating. Choose words and phrases people understand, and keep your messages short and concise.

Para entender mejor la competencia cultural es fundamental conocer a la familia. Ya sea voluntariado o trabajo directo con grupos vulnerables conocer sus realidades familiares nos permite tomar decisiones más eficaces.

Cultural competence is absolutely essential when practising social work because it allows us to understand our clients and their needs. When we are culturally competent, we can see and understand their strengths wherein lie their solutions. When practising social work, it’s helpful to have cultural awareness. I have worked with many asylum seekers and I can tell you that even small amount of cultural awareness can lead to greater acceptance of the professional. Having lived in 3 different countries comes in handy when I work with people. Also, knowledge of language can help facilitate trusted partnerships.

This is an area that I will continue to work on and is very necessary to remain effective and able to impact the diverse population that is served in the profession of Social Work.

One thing that a professor said really struck a chord: it isn't cultural competency, as no one becomes an expert in all of the ever-changing and multitudes of cultures we encounter. It's more a sense of cultural humility and cultural openness. It's a commitment to constantly educating ourselves, learning from other people and being open to their perspectives, free from your own life experiences judging what it should be. It's an admission to yourself and your clients that you aren't the expert here...they are.

Cultural Competence is "The spice of Life." Increasing skill sets, respect and appreciation for diversity in Social Work is imperative!!! Ethically speaking, understanding, acceptance and acknowledgement are key to the ethics of a reputable Social Work practice. My Social Work practice at CCSD is rewarding; as it allows work and collaboration with students, families, and outside agencies of various cultures an ethnicities. I am fortunate; as I work, practice, assist, encourage, engage and learn from various genders, religions, languages and philosophies, on a daily basis. "Self Care" is not what something does for oneself to manage burnout or avoid being overworked/overwhelmed. There is monumental importance in team building, mutual support from colleagues, and the recognition that the silo's in various system perpetuate harm not only to staff but to clients. The ability to take time away from work, professional development, and social construction of supports in and out of the team are critical to ongoing success in this field.

For me, i have a variety of personal care things that i like to do,, For example, -games -spiritual wellbeing -tv -physical activity/sports And it is a wise idea to use multiple strategies rather than just one! Remember to maintain a healthy diet and exercise as well!

Self care is really important as a social worker, take breaks when needed, rest to reset after a burn out, all these would help you become more efficient at work.

Self-care is definitely a skill you need to perfect. I look back at when I started as a social worker and now. I am a much better social worker when I exercise and set boundaries.

Without self-care after experiencing a client's crisis or just a full work day/week you do yourself and your client(s) an injustice. They have no place to pour into because you're already full. You must have some means of self-care -yoga, hobbies, meditate, therapy..there has to be an outpouring to continue to intake.

La veille social est très importante dans notre métier. Notamment les nouvelles législations. Les compétences évoluent au fur et à mesure et les professionnels ne contribuent pas correctement à cette veille social

Hay que tener claro a quién, cómo y dónde. Por dar un ejemplo, no es lo mismo generar capacitaciones de formación en sectores cómodos de una ciudad que en sectores vulnerables. El éxito de un proceso de intervención social está en la construcción de la metodología que comprenda las dinámicas específicas.
