In my experience, to share add-value knowledge and insights, you need to first of all know your audience EXTREMELY WELL. Who are you speaking to? What are they interested in? How can you add value to them? You can’t help them if you don’t know them. It’s not really about what YOU know, but how what you know can benefit THEM. It’s a very selfless act. Additionally, it’s okay to hint at the diversity of your experience but do focus primarily on the areas you want to be known for. Be very strategic about the content you share to consistently build a strong voice in your core focus area.

Your professional image plays a crucial role in how others perceive your credibility. Dress appropriately for your industry and pay attention to grooming. Ensure that your online presence, including social media profiles and professional websites, reflects the image of a competent and reliable professional. A polished appearance, both in person and online, can significantly boost the confidence others have in your abilities.

Two examples of how a good personal image can positively impact the workplace environment: Initial Impression: A good personal image can create a great first impression. Dressing professionally and presentably can convey confidence and competence from the moment you step into the office, which can positively influence how your colleagues and superiors perceive you. Credibility and Trust: A well-groomed personal image can enhance your credibility and the trust others have in you. When you dress appropriately for the workplace and maintain a clean and tidy appearance, people tend to have more confidence in your abilities and judge you as more trustworthy.

Unfortunately first impressions do matter. If you’re wearing a tshirt and slippers to a business interview you have to be prepared to manage the image you are portraying - and chances are you’ll have to work much harder to prove yourself. Consistency is also a key point here. You can’t say one thing on your website and a different one during a presentation or on your LinkedIn profile. You need to make sure all your messages and channels are aligned and telling the same story.

Maintaining ethical conduct is non-negotiable for establishing credibility. Always be honest in your dealings, keep confidential information private, and avoid conflicts of interest. As Warren Buffett famously said, "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it." Your integrity forms the foundation of trust and respect that others have for you. When you're known for your integrity, people are more likely to trust and respect you, significantly enhancing your perceived credibility. Upholding ethical standards consistently reassures others of your reliability and commitment to doing what is right, solidifying your reputation as a credible professional.

By engaging with others and helping out when you can, you create a network of professionals who can vouch for your expertise and character, thereby increasing your credibility.

Credibility depends mainly on TRUST, and TRUST comes about when Competence is joined with Integrity. Competence takes time to develop because it means one has expert skill, i.e., knows what to do, how to do it best, and why. Integrity means being authentic, honest, and true. Integrity accepts NO Lies, and generally not even Pretends, but instead ONLY the real deal - not like an AI production which will gladly produce Lies because AI has no way of telling TRUTH from Lies.
