So many individuals on these Web Design articles are talking about WordPress, but I honestly don't find it that intuitive, user-friendly, or easy to use for a complete beginner. I've had the most success in teaching others how to edit their sites on HubSpot first, followed closely by Wix, then SquareSpace in order of ease.

I have found that for beginners, Figma offers awesome design to code features that allow them to design their websites using drag and drop features, then they can convert their designs to pure HTML, CSS and Javascript. There are even options that allow you to convert the design to Flutter, React and other popular web frameworks. This is great for both getting things done, and learning as well. :)

Responsiveness is key in today's multi-device world. A beginner-friendly template should ensure your website looks great on desktops, tablets, and smartphones alike. I believe that Wix is a great place to start. They don't over-complicate with options but have plenty of drag & drop options on the backend. An intuitive interface where you can easily switch between the display on desktop and mobile, and make adjustments that don't affect the other perspective. Very easy to add in your own organic content as well as using their own database at no extra cost. Dashboard stats are also easy to navigate and provide a good overall view of how the site is performing as well as user behaviour.
-
Choose templates that include flexible grid systems and scalable images for seamless responsiveness across devices. Look for integrated accessibility features like ARIA labels for improved usability and SEO. Additionally, prioritize fast load times and mobile-first designs to enhance user experience and boost search engine rankings.
-
Non-negotiable! Ensure templates are optimized for mobile, tablets, and desktops. You don't want to tackle complex code customizations early on.

Consider designing with a "mobile-first" mindset, as many visitors will be checking your site out on mobile before they open it up in a desktop browser. One of my favorite tools, Carrd.co, provides a quick and easy mobile preview right in the visual builder. Not only that, but you can specific styles that apply only when the website is viewed on a mobile device.

Before going into action to design your website, it is important to land the general design. What do you need it to have? Buttons? Advertising banners? Is it an informative site, a news site or an e-commerce site? The template you need will depend on this. Choose the most popular and that suits your needs, this ensures that if it has a high number of downloads it works well for different purposes. What themes or templates does your provider or CMS generally recommend? Although some work well for any CMS, there are templates that Hostinger, Wix or WordPress recommend for creating sites on their platform. It is a guarantee that they will give you all the necessary information for implementation.
-
I view Customization Options as empowering users. Offer theme choices early. Let users adjust font size and style. Include color scheme variations. Enable layout changes for accessibility. Provide widget add-ons for personal touch. Remember save settings without user re-entry. Test custom features for user ease.

Visual builders truly are great resources for companies with nimble marketing teams, and budget-conscious marketing dollars to deploy a fantastic looking and branded website that builds their business. Visual builders like Elementor, Divi, Wix, all come with similar features, and often decent template pages to help springboard an MVP to life. The great thing is a true developer can also make those visual builders really come to life with the right ideas, and if you look closely, some of the biggest companies you interact with are building on these for the efficiency of going live.
-
Is it your own site and you have little budget? Is it a site for a client and you have the possibility to invest a little more in resources? Remember that the most important goal of a website is to appear in the SERP of search engines. You can have an amazing site, but so heavy that it is not optimized and does not have a responsive design, and that will subtract points to appear in the top of the search engines. A simple site can be visually appealing and rank well for the quality of its content. You can make excellent sites with Gutenberg (WordPress), or you can also pay for an Elementor Pro license that will help you to make the design more agile and easy. It all depends on the purpose, budget and content that want to make known.
-
I think Visual Builders like intuitive drag-and-drop interfaces. Start with basic templates for quick setup. Include grid lines for alignment. Offer pre-built sections and elements. Ensure undo and redo actions are easy. Preview changes in real time. Support importing of custom elements. Encourage experimentation with a sandbox mode.

Beginners can experiment with different designs and see real-time changes, making it easier to bring their creative vision to life without technical barriers.

It is important that you take these factors into account from the beginning. The themes and templates you choose for your website should be simple, practical and the most popular when you are starting out. The fact that they have many downloads or users assures you that there will be many people who know how to handle them and you will always find a tutorial on YouTube or references in blogs of experts or hosting providers themselves. Later on, when you are an expert you can afford to choose more exclusive themes. Remember that if you use WordPress you can always go to a large community in the forums where everyone collaborates resolving doubts.
