Look at networking as wine-making. If your expectation from networking is just to get a quick contract, you are wrong. Professional networking requires time and should be spent like making wine, quick and short-term results should not be the main goals.

If you don't want to be like a spark in the consulting market, you have to accept being a constant learner. The market and its needs are constantly growing and changing, and if you can't adapt to it, even future needs, you will have a high probability of failure.
