IT industry has allowed me to work with clients across the globe. Each of them has a different work culture and hence different expectations. For example, European clients are different from American. Active listening has helped me in not only understanding their ask, but also in reading in between lines and understanding emotions. One such case is when the person hosting the meeting was good, but did not realize that since the meeting was getting boring as it was more of a monologue. A few minutes into the meeting I could feel the change. I had to pitch in and change the course of the meeting. Taking pause and creating a dialogue with the clients helped in understanding the direction we should take. It strengthened the relationship.
