Major Colorado Springs roadway closed until Thursday after toppled fire hydrant leads to water main break

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A major stretch of roadway is closed in both directions as utility crews repave the street following a water main break.

Springs Utilities confirms a car hit a fire hydrant along Palmer Park Boulevard Monday, damaging the water main. According to several viewers, the fire hydrant toppled over and flooded the street.

When 11 News was on scene, the roadway resembled a stream with water rushing:

Viewers say a fire hydrant caused major street flooding.

Springs Utilities has shut down Palmer Park between Buena Ventura and Meade Avenue/Columbia Street.

Repairs are expected to last through Wednesday.

“Crews have successfully repaired the water main and are currently working to reopen the roadway. Over the next two days, crews will backfill the area and begin paving,” Utilities told 11 News in an update.

Springs Utilities says it hopes to reopen the road Thursday.
