Waco Police identify victim in late Monday night shooting

According to police, a 16-year-old male died at the crime scene while another victim of the same age was taken to a local hospital for injury treatment.

WACO, Texas — A 16-year-old male is dead and another victim of the same age was shot late at night on Monday, June 17 in what is now being investigated as a homicide, Waco Police say.

Around 10 p.m. that evening, officers went to the 2900 block of North 21st Street to respond to a shooting call. When the arrived, they discovered two 16-year-olds had been shot. 

Officers attempted to perform life-saving measures on one of the victims, but were unable to save the teen's life and he died from his injuries. He was recently identified in a June 20 update from Waco PD as Jonathan Alexander Smith.

The other 16-year-old that was shot was taken to a local hospital by a private vehicle and was treated. The identity of the other victim was not revealed.
