First Time Buyer's Honest Detailed Review
Reuben C· Review provided by thehydrojug.com · July 18, 2024
BACKGROUND
Been searching for a long term use daily tumbler, and did a ton of research comparing well known brands e.g. Stanley, Owala, Simple Modern, etc. Pros and cons for all but narrowed down to HJ mainly due to (i) embedded straw, see through lid, ambidexterity enabled and proper rubber base (without real need for boot). Price is higher than competitors but worth it still. Btw, I watched countless online videos (incld those by HJ themselves) to understand product to a T. You can def say research hsa been thorough, to put it mildly.

CONCERNS
Concerns (well publicized) were largely related to mold formation esp around straw mechanism after time.
So far, used it a mth so not best position to comment on that but I restricted myself (preference as well) to just drinking plain water as I prefer warm water throughout the day. Keeps cold (very long, like whole day) better than warm (maybe 3 hrs or so b4 you need topup for a warmish experience).

OVERALL
I would say go ahead and splash the cash. Great designed product, care has been invested and as long as mold issue does not become big one, HJ still a neck ahead. Moving forward, I would love to see modifications to enhence mold aspect (enable cleaning better), better price (of course) and weight reduction where possible. Mind you, it's slightly lighter than a Stanley so that's already a win.
I'm still a HJ camp advocate, and would still have bought it per se.
And oh, did I mention I emailed them asking for assistance for special discount due to my medical reasons and got no reply (not even a customary reply). Well, money talks and I guess it's tough love for me. That said, I still love you HJ and thanks for the delivery and design :)
Love the water bottle- Disappointed in the customer service

The water bottle is great except I recieved it and it had a little dent/puncture on the side and the paint was chipped when I opened it. I was so excited since it arrived the day I was leaving for a trip and I got this for my trip I immediately ripped the tags off before doing a full inspection. It was when I was washing it I noticed it so I took a picture and then emailed customer service asking if I could do an exchange. They told me I had to do a RETURN, I wouldn't get reimbursed for my shipping and the tags/stickers need to be on it. Long story short, the communication wasn't clear (this was after several emails back and forth), weren't friendly and they won't exchange it because I took the tags off. I mean come on, you can see I reached out immediately after it was delivered. There was no way I had made this mark on the water bottle. I opened the package, ripped the tags off, then went to handwash it right after opening and noticed it when I was handwashing it.

Per their return policy, I can "return" it but if the tags aren't on it my return will not be accepted and then not only will I be out the money, I won't have a water bottle to show for it. So I guess I'll use my brand new dented and chipped water bottle.

Needless to say, the customer service has put a bad taste in my mouth which sucks because otherwise it's a great product. I will stick to Stanley. I'm sure they will come out with a new straw function soon enough.
Cheaply made

I was very excited to get this product. Overall my experience with the company and the product was extremely poor. First they shipped me someone else's product. Then they sent me the right order. It was good at first but after a couple of months I noticed the water was not staying cold and it was regularly leaking. I kept having to tighten the lid more and more. It eventually got to the point I was tightening it so much that I was having a hard time opening it again. Finally one day when turning the lid to open it, while holding the handle, the handle broke off. I emailed the company and they told me they see a dent on the bottle which means I dropped it and thats why the handle came off. I recommend anyone who buys this item to becareful as this company will make any excuse not to stand by their over priced product. Anyone who has had a product like this before knows that by dropping the bottles, the handles that are bolted in would never just pop off. Another cheaply made item. Not recommended. Looks good but doesn't work well.
Right Track

I do really like the color of the material but I really thought this particular item would be double insulated to be more of a true 24 hour insulated drink. While the ice does last a while it cannot compare to my less than $20 one that does. For that reason I would only recommend this brand when there's a good sale because I expect more than cute colors, 40oz, and a clear lid for this price. It is also not leak proof unless you screw the lid on very tightly which can be an issue for those with arthritis or carpal tunnel. Additionally the material for the lid is soft so it can become permanently dented as mine did during shipping and there should be concerns that they had to create a sleeve to prevent wear on the bottom finish of the cup. I expect more durability as well. My rating is due to the lack of insulation design and durability issues. I'll only recommend this product for aesthetics primarily.
