Excellent over all

I bought two of these locks, one from Amazon.ca and one from BestBuy Canada. The one that I got from BestBuy was fancier packaged, although both looked sealed from August. The one from BestBuy had a sleeve with a picture of the lock that covered the beautiful red box that included all the parts. The one that I received from Amazon had a beige colour box inside the exterior cover that had the lock picture on it. Aside from regular packaging from the one from Amazon, there was no instruction manual in the box also. Now whether the one from amazon was in older packaging or was a refurbished one, I don’t know, but I didn’t see any sign of being used before or refurbished. Now let’s get to the technical part;
The lock is super easy to install; just follow the instruction on your app (installed/download) on your phone.
Make sure the connect (Bridge to link with your router) is very close to your lock; otherwise, it won’t connect to your router.
I am pleased with this lock; the only reason I gave four stars rating was that; the main reason I bought this lock aside from easy installation was the auto-unlock feature.
But to get that feature to work, you need to follow the below steps:
- Make sure your August app is running in the background on your phone
- Your Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, possibly the location on your phone must be on always.
- You need to go through the same door you installed the lock (not your garage door) in order the lock sense your in and out.
- You need to be as far as 200 meters away from your lock until your lock register the away mode
- Do not turn off/ restart your phone during the day
Apparently, there are some minor issues with Android Bluetooth that August is working to solve it
The only time that I manage to get the auto-unlock to work was when I met all the conditions above BUT to have my Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, possibly the location on continuously drains my precious battery very fast, which is not convenient.
I hope August finds a better way to solve this issue.
Replacement parts is expensive outside of warranty

I bought mine from Best Buy on April 2020. It's great and we love it. It needs the key pad to be fully get the advantage of the smart lock. I bought my key pad from Best Buy as well. With in a year my key pad died three times. Since it was in warranty, August replaced it completely and I was very impressed with August Warranty Support.

The problem is support outside of warranty. Out smart lock stopped working properly as it started to skidding when unlock. I can see the motor was working fine but it's unable to unlatch properly. Opened lock to find that the BLUE adaptor was worn out. I am surprised that this part was made of plastic.

I can't find any replacement part in Canada. It's available from the August site in the USA. The price is reasonable at $10.00 USD but the shipping is $25.00 USD. At this point, the shipping cost really bothers me.

We bought 9 of these locks with the keypads for our small commercial vacation rental building. We went with the higher-priced August lock hoping that we would have a seamless experience and good customer service. However, their locks have jammed multiple times, some of them went through the setup process fine and a couple had glitches causing me to waste time calling their customer service and them having to reset the products. One lock stopped working after a couple of months, the actual mechanism inside moved and does not properly lock or unlock the door anymore so people either get locked in or locked out and you have to use the key from the outside on the door to completely unlock the deadbolt. Customer service is of zero help in this, they don't even understand the problem and don't provide a helpful solution. Their app randomly stopped showing the keycodes this past month so if you are out of range of the lock and need to give them a code you cannot look it up on your phone if you do not have the wifi bridge. Save your money and get a cheaper version of a lock that does the same thing, the customer service is absolutely useless and there is no benefit to purchasing a product that lacks customer support and functionality.
August Lock Warranty/Service

I have purchase 4 August locks in total: two for my house and two for others in my family.

One of the locks in my house was purchased about 2 years ago and it was working great until the other day.
On the App, the lock was reporting it needed to be re-calibrated.
I tried a few times and received an error during the calibration process.
I called August Support and they attempted to walk me through the calibration process asking me to replace the batteries.
The batteries were replaced but unfortunately it did not work - I continued to get a calibration error.
Although the agent was very cordial and polite, she said it appears there is an issue with the lock and there isn't anything she can do since August only honors a one year warranty.

After the money I spent on 4 locks, it was very disappointing that all I was offered by August was a 'sorry, there appears to be an issue with your lock's hardware'.
