The Legal Aid Society Honors Freshfields Partner Mary Eaton with the Servant of Justice Award

The Legal Aid Society awarded Freshfields Partner and Co-Head of Securities & Shareholder Litigation Mary Eaton its Servant of Justice Award at its 47th Annual Servant of Justice Awards Dinner on May 9, 2024. Mary was recognized for her pro-bono work and her fierce advocacy on behalf of New Yorkers.

Mary noted: “It’s an honor to receive this award from such a prestigious organization. The work the Legal Aid Society has done throughout the years for New Yorkers in need of assistance is truly commendable and I’m proud to be a part of that mission.”

Mary is a firm believer in giving back to the community through pro bono service and has dedicated thousands of hours to managing and supervising various pro bono matters, both large and small. In recognition for that work, Mary has received a number of awards, including the Thurgood Marshall Award (Federal Bar Council), the Stonewall Award (American Bar Association), Outstanding Pro Bono Volunteer (New York State Bar Association), Lawyer Who Leads By Example (New York Law Journal), and Attorneys And Advocates Award (Sylvia Rivera Law Project). She is also a recipient of the Pro Bono Publico Award from The Legal Aid Society, which she has received for many years.

“The critical work we do at Legal Aid to advocate and fight for the rights of our clients both inside and out of the courtroom would not be possible without the help of our Servant of Justice Honorees,” said Attorney-In-Chief & Chief Executive Officer of The Legal Aid Society Twyla Carter. “Together, we have made significant advances in our mission to advance justice across New York City. This year, we were successful in our efforts to preserve the landmark Right to Shelter protections for longtime and recently arrived New Yorkers alike. Moreover, our impact litigation continued their work to combat policies that promote racial disparities, income bias, and inequality in our prison systems. There is still much work to be done, and our organization, along with our partners, will continue to defend our clients and the people of New York City.”
