FAQs about Brave VPN

  • A firewall forms a secure barrier between your device (phone, tablet, or computer) and the internet—it blocks unwanted trackers, viruses, and more from your device. A virtual private network (VPN) creates a private network for you and your device, no matter how you’re accessing the internet—even on a public or non-secure WiFi network. Brave VPN offers the benefits of both VPN and a firewall to protect everything you do online. It blocks unwanted surveillance with protection at the network level, on your entire device, on every app you use.
  • Brave VPN is available in the Brave browser on iOS devices. It will be available for Android devices and desktop computers (Linux, Mac, and Windows) very soon.
  • Yes. Brave VPN protects up to 5 devices, as long as each has the Brave browser installed.
  • Brave VPN is a subscription service. It’s available in the Brave browser on iOS devices for $9.99 / month or $99.99 / year. Each subscription comes with a 7 day free trial. To start a trial or purchase, open the Brave Browser on your mobile device, open the Settings menu (“…”), then toggle VPN on and follow the prompts to get set up.
  • Switching to a local server can improve speed and performance of VPN, and thus of the apps you’re using on your device. To select a local server, open your browser settings and navigate to the Brave Firewall + VPN tab.
  • During initial set up of Brave Firewall + VPN, you will be asked to install a profile on your iOS device. Apple requires that users enter their device pin code / biometrics when setting up a VPN, so in this case the profile is just a file that contains VPN connection details. The profile is necessary for the VPN to function, and to enable functionality like the filtering / blocking of trackers. Note that this profile is independent of the Brave Browser.
  • Not at the moment, but we are actively working on this. We hope to offer Brave Premium purchases with BAT in the near future.
  • Brave VPN is powered by a partnership with Guardian. Together, Brave and Guardian offer 24 / 7 support, 365 days a year. Never worry about a broken connection or trouble getting through to tech support.
