Apple Safari 3 Beta

As part of all the news coming out of the World Windows Developer's Conference the folks at Apple have decided to roll out Safari for the Windows operating system.

At least the license agreement.

With the Safari + Quicktime package you also get Apple's Bonjour for Windows network device sharing software.

The install process for Safari seems pretty Windows-like too.

The Safari + Quicktime duo removes old Quicktime files during installation.

…you've now got Safari on your Windows PC.

While it may look new to Windows users with no Safari experience it really looks pretty much the same as Safari on a Mac.

…should look pretty much the same as they do in Firefox, IE, or Opera.

One thing that might take non-Mac users a little time to get used to is the way your options screen looks in Safari.

Simple and elegant remains the appearance status quo for Safari in Windows too.

To Bonjour or not to Bonjour; the choice is yours.

Many longtime IE and Firefox diehards may have forgotten that Safari has had tabbed browsing for years.

You've got RSS options in Safari too.

The choices are simple but they are there.

Safari-specific vulnerabilities for Windows. Perish the thought.

Granular isn't the first word that comes to mind to describe the advanced settings available in Safari for Windows.

Apple isn’t shy about touting the speed of Safari for Windows, but how much does it really matter? That’s up to you. These graphs are from the Safari 3 Reviewer’s Guide provided by Apple.

According to this Apple-provided graph, Safari is faster with Java, too. Your own performance could be different based on your system components and browser configuration.

It’s too soon to draw across-the-board performance conclusions, in my opinion, especially since I’ve yet to see developers from the other major browsers chiming in about how tweaks to their own browsers might change these results.
