Google only just released its Chrome browser for iOS, but it’s already rocketed to the top of the free apps on the app store. The new
browser joins not only Apple’s Safari, but a range of other options including Opera and Dolphin. Chrome is racking up a number of positive reviews on the app store – averaging 4.5 stars out of 4720 ratings, at last count.
The new browser comes with most of the features you might expect if you’ve seen Chrome on Android or a laptop. Bloggers are pleased with how the browser syncs with the desktop version, but caution that no third-party browser on iOS is ever going to be as fast as Apple’s own Safari. Explains PC World:
Chrome for iOS might be a useful browser if you use it on your desktop already, but don’t rush into thinking it could become your default browser on iOS. The reason is that Chrome is slower -- and can’t be faster – than Safari. This is because Apple is restricting the use of its Nitro JavaScript engine to Safari, while other apps don’t have access to it.
