Angle Subscriber Exclusive: WI Harper & Skype Co-Founder To Invest In Chinese Browser/Search Play

Venture firm WI Harper and serial entrepreneur Morton Lund are rumored to be close to closing series A financing for My Soft, the company responsible for Maxthon Internet Browser software. The browser software boasts over 29 million downloads. The company generates revenues via the search application bundled with the software. The Maxthon tabbed browser gives Internet Explorer users access to tabbed browsing - a feature that currently drives many IE users to alternate browsers including Safari, Mozilla, and Opera. Founder Chen Ming Jie (Jeff) is expected to move from Hong Kong up to Beijing once the financing is in place. The amount raised is expected to be in the vicinity of US$3 million but sources close to the deal would not elaborate on valuations.
