I received this error on vista. I want to say it has something to do with system updates. I haven't updated mine yet, and am currently in the process. I recommend doing the same. If that doesn't work I'm going to look into disabling some of the built-in security features and see if they are the issue. I'll post my solution when I get it to work.

I just found out that Google is now working on the issue. I think this happened in the past 48 hours. I really firmly believe that it is a compatibility issue with Google Updater, Vista, and Chrome. I also firmly believe that it could easily be resolved if Google would accept that not all their user's are drooling idiots and can safely install their own software.

I'm not on Vista, I'm on XP... it's nice to know they've acknowledged the issue.

Hey guys,
It looks like there's a roadblock between Windows and the update process. Would it be possible for you guys to provide a little more information about your systems? Specifically:
- Is this an OEM machine or a custom-built machine? - If it's an OEM machine, what manufacturer is it and approximately how old is it? - Can you provide us the value of these reg keys? For Vista: The value of 'ImageState' in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\State For XP: The value of 'AuditInProgress' in HKLM\System\Setup
You can find these by going to Start > Run and type in 'regedit' . Use the explorer in the left nav to find the folder listed above. The value of the reg key will be located in the right side 'Data' column.
If you're willing to export these reg keys and send them to us (using the below contact forms), that'd be even more awesome.
Thanks! Shawn

I get this exact error running the installer for Google Earth 5. My machine is a budget eMachines, running XP with all service packs. It's about 3 years old. AuditInProgress is (0x01)
