Less than a year after the initial release of Flock 1.0, we are proud to release Flock 2.0. Flock 2.0 has been through three beta cycles, enjoyed tremendous feedback from our community of users and is a significant step forward in capability and quality. And, this final release of Flock 2.0 has some great new capabilities that have not been made available in any prior 2.0 beta release. Let me take a moment to tell you what to expect in Flock 2.0.

Flock 2.0 is built on the latest Firefox 3 technology from Mozilla, so you’ll find it to be snappy, safe and easier to use. Flock 2.0 also comes with some great new features not found in any other browser today.

First of all, we’re very pleased to announce that we’ve added MySpace as a major new addition to our suite of 23 other popular services integrated within Flock. MySpace was the #1 most requested service from our community. Now MySpace lovers can stay up to date with their MySpace friends and activities no matter where they are on the web. MySpace users will also find that Flock offers the easiest way to upload photos, insert photos and videos in MySpace comment fields and share most any web content by simply dragging and dropping it into the Flock People sidebar.

Flock 2 also incorporates Media RSS (MRSS) detection capability so that you can subscribe to media streams being made available by websites, even if the site isn’t one of the 23 integrated with Flock. Once you’ve subscribed to a media stream via Media RSS, you will be notified about the arrival of new photos and videos posted by your favorite sites and they will flow right into your MyWorld page in Flock, so you never miss out on updates to your favorite media streams.  We’ll go into this great new capability in depth in a later blog post.

For the first time, we are also making themes available for Flock 2. Check out extensions.flock.com and install a theme to customize the look of Flock. We’re shipping today with two new themes, and will be adding many more over the coming weeks and months.

If you’re already a Flock user – thank you! And, get ready for the best version of Flock ever! If you are new to Flock, give Flock 2.0 a test drive and discover what users from 165 countries and territories all around the world already know – with Flock you will rock the web! With the latest Firefox 3 architecture under the hood, you’ve now got the latest technology with the most innovative features available in any browser today.  If you’ve been using the 2.0 beta, we highly recommend you upgrade…there’s a lot in this release that you haven’t seen yet.

Check it out and let us know what you think. Your feedback has been essential in developing Flock 2, and we have been growing with the strong global support of satisfied Flockstars everywhere who have been telling their friends: “get ready to meet your new favorite browser”.

-Cheers

Great version and thanks for the MySpace plugin.... just one thing though, the themes site isn't working.

For the record: Auto-updates for Flock 2.0 Beta users will be released shortly, while auto-updates for users of Flock 1.x should be out on a more extended timeframe. If you'd like to manually upgrade, simply download and run the installer right here at flock.com.

@Jason: Extensions.flock.com should be working now...it got pushed shortly after our blog post. Timing is tricky. :) Let me know if it's still down.

Just installed, and I'm happy with what I see. The Dublin theme is nice, but for someone like me who tends to collect RSS feeds and then not read new posted items, the pulsing may get distracting. :-)

Congrats to everyone involved for the release.

Yep it's up, thanks! Now just hoping we get more than two themes (I'm sure we will)

Whooyeah. Been waiting for this.

I'm happy with using Strata thanks.

I've been waited for this news so much! :) Thank you guys, and keep up the good work!

Hello Shawn Hardin,

Flock 2 is no longer in beta? That is awesome.

I was sure to hear some great news about Flock, as I haven't seen any updates in this blog for more than a month. I knew Flock team is working on something big and here we are finally Flock 2 out of Beta version.

From the day I started using Flock 2, I never went back to the 1.x version. There were some bugs in the Flock 2 Beta, but now we can finally get a bugs free version of Flock 2.

Thank You Flock Team
Regards

Congrats on release, trying it now :)

OMG!! its about bloomin time, lol.
i cant wait for this, i wonder if the blog editor will work with the myspace blogs?

anyhoo! chuffed to bits!! xx

I have been using Flock since shortly after Walt Mossberg's review and I have to say that I love it! I'm downloading the final release of 2.0 because it will make life easier with my Facebook. I have found Flock to be far superior to all the other browsers I have used over the past 15 years or so. Thanks and keep up the good work!

It is AWESOME!
(Twitter isn't working with ppl sidebar, though :( )

Hi Shawn:

Early this morning I downloaded and installed Flock 2.0, but it didn't worked. I keep getting a pop window that reads, "Flock.exe has detected a problem and must be closed. If you are in the middle of a process, the information you are working on could be lost. Please advise Microsoft of this problem.

I uninstalled Flock and installed it again with same results. I restored the system to previous setting with same results. I launched Flock in Safe Mode with same results. At this moment, I don't know what to do. I was using previous Flock 1.2.6 with no problems.

Can you help me? Will wait for your answer in the wings,

Omar Upegui R.

Hello Omar,

Thanks for contacting us. I believe I already replied to you on your blog? But if not, this is an issue we definitely need to address. This may sound really simple, but have you restarted your computer lately?

Also, when you uninstalled Flock the first time, did you ask it to completely remove your profile folder (if you had Flock previously)? After restarting your computer, the next step I think, is to try a clean profile. You can find your profile by following these instructions and just move it to your Desktop (while Flock is closed).

When you restart Flock it will have a fresh profile folder. Please let me know how this goes, hopefully this helps! My apologies for any inconveniences this may have caused.

Thanks!

Flock 2 failed to import my bookmarks from the previous version properly. Had to reinstall 1.1 to retrieve them. Your browser needs more tweaking.

Hi guys!

I just installed 2.0...I'm liking it so far. I had one mini almost freak out when I couldn't find the + for a new tab. I liked it where it was...but I'll get used to it. :)

Otherwise, no complaints so far!

No, I did not not elliminate my profile folder when I uninstalled Flock. I thought it was prudent to have it there, since all my bookmarks, passwords, and so forth are there.

How do I move the profile folder to the Desktop? Will I loose all my personal information when I get a fresh profile folder? I'll be waiting for your answer.

Omar.-

I have been using flock since a long time. I was quite excited for its new version. And to my surprise, It simply didnt run on my PC!! I installed the version, even restarted the PC, but when i try to open the browser, it says, cant open, and sends an error message to MS. I am using genuine windows, and an high end machine. Can you plese sort out the problem.

I have been a regular user of flock and have been promoting it through my blog also.

PLease see to it.

Thanks,
Sudhindra.

@Omar: One last thing to try: Start Flock in Safe Mode (instructions) and disable extensions/addons/themes. If Flock starts and does not crash, it's due to one of your add-ons/themes.

Yes, moving your profile folder to your desktop will unfortunately mean you will lose your bookmarks/passwords. You can lessen the pain by backing up bookmarks and a list of your RSS news feeds.

If Safe mode does not work, uninstall 2.0, reinstall 1.2.6, and back up your bookmarks and RSS feeds. Instructions here, including how to back up bookmarks. To back up RSS news feeds, Open the Feeds Sidebar, click Feed Options dropdown, then Export Feeds. Save to desktop for import into a fresh profile.

@Omar: We just want you to temporarily move your profile so we can determine whether the issue is in your profile or not. IF the issue is not in your profile, then after we fix the issue you'll be able to return it to it's proper place.

@everyone else: I'll hop on your notes tomorrow morning.

rss in flock 2 .. not support Persian ( Farsi ) font
thanks for your job and successful

Hi, flock rulez! But I got the same problem...and one of my friend have this problem but with gmail...

I can't use firefo themes anymore? =(

Is that permanent?

Those 2 themes are nice but i want more variations though.

BTW, 2.0 is flocking cool.

Hie guys !

Great news this Flock 2.0 release. I've been using Flock for nearly a year now, and I continue lovin' it.

But can't you release the themes for Linux user's too ? Thanks to think to us linux fans too please, that would be really awesome... ;)

It there a way to untheme Flock? Themes don't work for Linux users and the default theme is far from anything that matches most desktops. Firefox works and looks just fine if it just follows standard GTK rules. Is there anyway to get this into Flock?

@Jason Williams: More themes are definitely coming soon...we now have a fulltime themer (the quite-popular Brett Bodine who will be bringing us some great stuff and some of his Firefox themes.

@aleksod: We've fixed the Twitter issue. You should get the fix within 24 hours or you can get it now by going to Options>Advanced>Updates>Force Service Updates.

@LennynNero: Sorry to hear about the bookmarks issue. Did you use the Flock 2 beta at one point in time? If so, this is a known bug that will be fixed shortly...if not, we'll want to chat with you more to figure out what happened.

@Sudhindra Rao: Sorry to hear about the issue...please email our Community Support Lead, Jen Anderberg, and she will help you hunt down the cause. You can get her at jen at flock dot com.

@Gerlando: Sorry, could you clarify what issue you're seeing?

@Jason Williams: Yeah, Firefox themes can break Flock so we had to disable them. More themes are definitely coming soon...we now have a fulltime themer (the quite-popular Brett Bodine who will be bringing us some great stuff and some of his Firefox themes.

Hi Evan!
Ok this is the problem: when I enter in the "Accounts and service sidebar" and I click on twitter icon, I try to configure my account, but I always get this message: "configure your twitter account in Flock to enjoy all the benefits of having twitter in your browser. You'll need to log out and log in again to activate Flock advanced features.
So I follow the instructions, but each time it appears the same message. and I can't configure my twitter accounts on Flock.
This is really strange because I downloaded flock to another PC and I haven't this problem.
A friend of mine have the same problem with his gmail account.
Ok, that's all. For the rest no problem.
Tks!!!
P.S.
Sorry for my horrible english :(

Twitter account on Flock: I do not know how, but the problem is resolved: I followed your instructions( Options>Advanced>Updates>Force Service Updates ), but nothing happened. I rebooted several times and then Flock is connected and configured.
Tks, for all!

Once you do Force Service Updates, I believe you need to restart Flock in order for the new updates to take effect. Good to hear the Twitter problem is now resolved for you.

i'd hope that Brett Bodine WILL give us themes that are cooler and way more amazing than Firefox.

In the meantime, i'll use the existing themes.

Flock 2 it.s the best ! i m from Poland ! kongratulation.s for you ! thenk.s over
