K-Meleon 1.x Reference

K-Meleon's menus, macros and toolbars are all translated with the help of a single properties file. You can edit this file with any text editor you like. Its lines have the following format:

<englishString>=<translatedString>

You only need to enter your translation behind the equality sign.

A line beginning with a hash mark is ignored (comment):

#<englishString>=

Note: As far as a line is not commented out by default, you should always specify a translation - even if the latter is not different from the original. When a translation is missing, the related string will be displayed in the default language. In case of K-Meleon 1.0, the default language is always English, but in case of K-Meleon 1.1, this can be any installed language.

  What files do I have to edit?

    You have to edit the following file:

    • locales\xx-YY\kmeleon.kml

    Where xx-YY is meant to be your localization's language code (e.g. de-DE for German or zh-CN for simplified Chinese).

    Note that kmeleon.kml is only used when it's accompanied by an appropriate kmeleon.dll.

    Additional *.kml files can be placed in the locales directories to translate custom macros for instance.

    You have to edit the following file:

    • language.cfg

    Note that language.cfg is only used when it's accompanied by an appropriate k-meleonloc.dll.

    Additional entries have to be added to this file in order to translate custom macros for instance.

  How do I update my translated file?

  You can use the following Windows Script to populate the most recent kmeleon.kml template with your most recent translations. Then examine kmeleon.kml to see what's missing. Simply save the script to disk and run it to get some usage instructions:
