Even Firefox devotees should consider taking AOL's spiffy, feature-packed browser for a spin.
Free; attractive design; tabbed browsing; integrated desktop search, RSS reader, AOL mail preview.
Questionable antispyware tools. Some features not yet working. Can't import favorites from Firefox or Opera. Doesn't support Internet Explorer toolbars.

Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? That's a question many America Online subscribers may ponder on downloading AOL Explorer, the company's latest gratis offering. The feature-packed Web browser, which requires only a standard-issue Internet connection, not an AOL subscription, arrives on the heels of two other unbundled freebies: AIM Mail and an updated AOL Instant Messenger. Even if you weren't wowed by that pair, you may find yourself tempted to adopt AOL Explorer. It's prettier than Microsoft Internet Explorer, easier to use than Firefox, and cheaper than Opera.
