This directory contains version 1.0 alpha2 of the Java(tm) language
technology and a prototype World-Wide Web browser called HotJava(tm).

This is an *alpha* release of the browser, focussed on highlighting
the technology of "executable content" on the Internet.  As such, it
is not intended for use as your only WWW browser; it is still missing
many common browser features, and will of course have some bugs.  It
*will* serve to demonstrate the new active interface ideas possible
with the technology, and it will allow you to create and compile your
own Java content.

The binary version of HotJava in this directory will only run on
Solaris 2.3. (or above) systems running OpenWindows.  Other ports are
in progress.

To download this release, proceed as follows:
    > binary
    > get hj-alpha2.tar.Z
    > quit
    $ zcat hj-alpha2.tar.Z | tar xf - 
The compressed tar file is just over 4.8 Meg.  Uncompressed and
unpacked it will take up 10.8 Meg (most of that is on-line
documentation).
