YoungMinds helps provide young people with tools to take better care of their mental health. It also ensures adults in their lives are empowered to do their best to support them. Its goal a world where no young person feels alone in their mental health , but if the wait for treatment is long it’s easy to feel helpless. Worrying news from industry body Group Risk Development (GRiD) — less than half of employers consider benefits that cover all their people.* Katharine Moxham, spokesperson for GRiD said: “Employees are a company’s biggest asset, and all need to be supported. It makes good business sense that employee benefits are targeted at the needs of the masses and not the few.” As part of our mission for helping more people, Unum 100% agrees with this stance of providing benefits that work for all their employees. Today’s workplaces are made up of multiple generations all working together, so benefits need to work for everyone. Then, once these are in place, employers should remember to signpost employees towards them to ensure maximum engagement. Employee benefits are the backbone of happy, healthy and more productive employees. More than 70 people put on their quizzer hats last week in Dorking to raise money for two of our charity partners: Stripey Stork and YoungMinds. Do you know that the national animal of Scotland is the unicorn? 🦄 Do you know your vomit fruit from your jackfruit? Can you spot the flag of Greenland at ten paces? Or are you an aspiring Play-Doh architect ready for the wildcard famous landmarks round? You’d have been a great addition to #TeamUnum. Most importantly, we raised more than £1,000 split between the two charities. Stripey Stork have earmarked the money to purchase new mattresses for cots and Moses baskets donated by local families, while YoungMinds will use the donation to pay towards training two new advisers for its Parents Helpline. #Charity #Fundraising #Quiz

A fabulous day yesterday at the #REBA Wellbeing Congress. I can’t believe it’s in its 9th year - congratulations and thank you to Debi O'Donovan and Philip Hayne and team for all the hard work in pulling this together. Lots to takeaway but 3 reflections: 1. The explosion of providers in the Wellbeing market place. There is an app or a “solution” for everything, but too many in isolation. Our challenge as employers is to integrate them and create a seamless employee experience. 2. The increasingly close links between Benefits teams and Health and Wellbeing specialists. Success seems to lie for those that bring these two together in a joint approach. 3. Does the data show Wellbeing initiatives are working? Not always - but what seems clear is the need to move from plugging gaps and reacting to a more focused preventative approach. And finally well done to AWE ‘s own Cleo Howie who gave an excellent presentation showcasing our own journey with Unum to better managing absence and supporting our employees at their time of need. #REBAWellbeing #wellbeing #AWE
