Commercial vehicle production has gone from strength to strength over the last year, driven by increasing demand at home and abroad. The recent downturn is obviously disappointing, but is temporary and, as supply chain disruptions are resolved, output should be back on track. With the general election now just a week away, the next government must ensure we have the conditions necessary for growth which means maintaining favourable market conditions, improving the competitiveness of UK manufacturing and ensuring trade flows are as free and fair as possible. https://lnkd.in/eTKqzytH

Massive change is underway in the UK’s car factories as manufacturers retool for new electric models. Amid strong international competition for green automotive investment, however, the UK needs to ensure it has the most attractive conditions for manufacturing businesses and a compelling offer for existing and new investors. Essential to this is a long-term industrial strategy, which encompasses all industry, all stakeholders and all of government in the pursuit of sustainable and green growth. https://lnkd.in/eCbm6aU2

Great to meet with Oxa CEO Gavin Jackson yesterday along with Andreas Mavroudis, Paul Reynolds and the team in Oxford to discuss how self-driving technology could be commercially scaled. We were given a ride in their self-driving car on the streets outside Oxford to experience the technology in action. The new Automated Vehicles Act paves the way for the technology to deliver long-term economic and social benefits. This technology could save an additional 3,200 lives and prevent 53,000 serious accidents by 2040, with £38 billion economic boost when self-driving passenger vehicles are deployed on UK roads.
