When we started Otta, the realities of job search were quite bleak. Recruitment was stuck in the dark ages, the big players had failed to innovate, and job seekers were fed-up. Searches were throwing up irrelevant jobs. Recruiters were pushing unsuitable roles. Being ghosted by companies was the norm. Finding a new job was so daunting. We've left the world of basic job boards behind. Finding a new job is more than just a transaction. It’s exciting, rewarding - and an opportunity to find true fulfilment. We're the only job search that does you justice. At Otta everything we do aims to bring out the best in you. Whether that's being picky about the companies that make it onto the platform, recommending the kind of roles you jump up and down about, sharing insights to help you make smarter applications, or giving you the tools to express that you're more than just a resume. With a single-person talent team? 🤯 Talent Acquisition Manager Conrad Swift did just that following the Series A fundraise of legal tech scale up Orbital Witness last year. “Seeing how we made our hires last year, it's scary to think, what if we didn't have Otta?” To rapidly scale their technical and commercial teams, and fill hard-to-hire roles, Conrad needed to work efficiently. Partnering with Otta to enhance their candidate experience and build a stand out brand, Orbital Witness ultimately made 1/3 of hires on Otta within 12 months. Shouldn't we just hire the best candidate for the job?" Of course! These aren't mutually exclusive.     The Flexible Working Act is now law in the UK 👏 Over 4 million people a year leave their jobs because of a lack of flexibility. It’s no surprise that the #1 thing job candidates tell us they care about is flexibility and well being. So, what's new? 🗓 All employees have the right to ask for flexible working arrangements from day one of a new job ❓ You don't need to explain if it's for childcare, a disability, personal needs or any other reason 2️⃣ You get 2 chances per year to put in a request ⏱ Employers have to respond to the request within 2 months and must consult with you if they decline the request 👶 Employees on maternity, adoption and shared parental leave get additional redundancy protections This is an exciting moment for inclusion in the workplace.     This morning, we had a great time hosting a breakfast & bringing together talent leaders to discuss how to diversify tech teams. A big thank you to our expert panellists Sophie Garrard and Jen Burry - led by Caroline Fischer - who shared some really insightful learnings around the different DEI initiatives they've introduced at Beauty Pie and Sylvera. And thank you to everyone who came along to join the discussion. We often hear that DEI hiring is the top priority for businesses, and there were interesting takeaways including: 🌟  Hiring managers, time and qualified candidates were among the top challenges of the audience in tackling DEI recruitment 🌟  For both panellists, diversity started at the top with the founders from the beginning 🌟  Be transparent when tracking DEI metrics, both internally in the business and in the hiring process 🌟  Involve employees outside of the people team in new DEI initiatives, to help ensure there's buy in across the company We're always looking forward to our next event.
