The international retention toolkit is available to support international staff to stay, thrive and build lasting careers in the NHS. Produced in collaboration with NHS Employers, the toolkit aims to support international staff in the NHS by improving their experience at work. It is designed to be used by line managers as part of an overall approach to retaining colleagues.    Based on a framework of four pillars, this toolkit brings information, best practice examples, and resources together in one place and focuses on what organisations, systems, and regions are already doing to create the conditions for all international staff to thrive in the NHS. You can access the toolkit here: https://lnkd.in/edZk6KGe   #OurNHSPeople

‘It takes courage to reach out for help and it’s okay to feel worried to talk to someone about what you’re going through.’ This Mental Health Awareness Week, read how Jasmin, a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, helps individuals with a range of mental health needs through NHS Talking Therapies. ‘Talking Therapies, in a nutshell, is mental health support. We assess people who are 16 years old and above and treat a range of anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, and phobias. Individuals do not need to be diagnosed with a mental health problem and can refer themselves. We offer free and confidential psychological therapies delivered by a wide array of fully trained and accredited practitioners via a range of evidence-based talking therapies.’ Having worked in her role for the last two years, Jasmin says that patients often find reaching out for support to be the hardest part. ‘More often than not, I get people saying how much better they feel after their first conversation. They say they feel a weight lifted and that it was easier to talk to a stranger that doesn’t judge because they understand on a professional level.’ Thank you for sharing your role with us Jasmin! Feelings of anxiety and depression can affect us all. If you need help with your mental health, you can refer yourself, or your GP can refer you to NHS Talking Therapies. http://nhs.uk/talk #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #EndTheStigma

“My NHS career started as a healthcare support worker on a children’s ward at local acute hospital. Children would generally be admitted for physical health concerns but some children were admitted for self-harming or suicidal thoughts. I wanted to understand what could be done to help them and families. “Communication has always been one of my strengths and it helped me form relationships with children and their families. My employer encouraged me to train as a nurse and with my experience as a support worker, gave me the confidence to apply. “The children and families I meet and the colleagues I work with are the best thing about my job. To understand what is happening for a child and family and how we can help them is important to me. The variety and complexity of my role means I am positively challenged every day. I am lucky to have so much job satisfaction. “I am honoured to be able to work with other consultant nurses across the country. Our work has real impact on our services and people’s lives. It’s very exciting to know that my experience and knowledge, alongside that of my colleagues, truly makes a difference to families nationally and locally.” Annie’s NHS career started as a healthcare support worker. She’s now a consultant nurse and approved clinician at Derbyshire healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Find your route into mental health nursing. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek https://ow.ly/vhkI50RE9Lx
