🎉 A well-deserved honour for a true champion of investigative journalism: John-Allan Namu, the driving force behind our partner Africa Uncensored, has been recognised with the 2024 International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) Knight International Journalism Award. As co-founder and CEO of Africa Uncensored, John-Allan has spent nearly two decades exposing corruption in #Kenya and its implications on ordinary citizens: "Undeterred by threats, he has courageously covered numerous public interest stories that have positively impacted people’s lives in Kenya and beyond. As AI rapidly advances, concerns about its potential misuse in elections are rising. However, POLITICO Europe's Mark Scott argues that we shouldn't panic just yet. Despite the alarming deepfakes and disinformation enabled by AI, Scott maintains a measured perspective, suggesting that voters' better judgment will likely prevail: 💡 "For now, I have a potentially naive belief that people are smarter than many of us think they are. As easy as it is to think that one well-placed AI deepfake on social media may change the minds of unsuspecting voters, that's not how people make their political choices."
