For 93 years, Lathallan has provided an inspirational learning environment for young people. Nursery | Junior | Senior

About us

On 17th January 1930, five young boys (Alexander, Duke, Grace, Harrison and Price) wearing short trousers, caps and red and grey striped ties, were handed over by their trusting parents to the care of Lathallan School and this is where our story began. Lathallan today is an extraordinary co-educational nursery, junior and senior school for youngsters between the ages of 6 months and 18 years. Our school castle, boarding house and facilities are located within 60 acres of leafy grounds, on the North Sea coastline and this incredible setting provides unrivalled outdoor learning opportunities and a specious environment for pupils to explore and enjoy. We are elated to have been awarded UK Small Independent School of the Year 2021, recognising the quality of the student experience we offer. Lathallan School Pipe Band Celebrates 60 Years! Yesterday, a fantastic reunion brought together pipers, drummers, parents, pipe band managers, and instructors from past and current years at Lathallan School for a celebration to make this milestone of our incredible school pipe band, established in 1964. An afternoon workshop helped everyone brush up on their piping and drumming skills while also learning two new tunes composed by current piping instructor Mr Nevans as a tribute to PM Harry Stott and Mr Jock Clarke, the founding members of the Lathallan School Pipe Band. The band visited the graveyard in Johnshaven to honour PM Harry Stott and they were greeted by people lining the streets for their public performance at the Harbour. S6 pupil Ruaridh, the current Pipe Major, played Stott’s bagpipes on the day. Back at Brotherton, the evening featured delicious food, entertainment, and ceilidh dancing - a night of reconnecting and creating new memories. A huge thank you goes to our Pipe Band Manager Rachel Kinkead, John Nevans and Scott Niven for delivering such a wonderful event. Read more about it - https://lnkd.in/epVvWVvp

Royal Highland Show 🐑🐂🐓 Our Junior School had a fantastic day at the Royal Highland Show last Friday. The children got their hands dirty creating seed bombs and learning about beekeeping with some delicious honey tasting. They even put their cooking skills to the test by making their own lamb burgers for lunch – yum! Exploring the livestock was a highlight, with the students getting up close to sheep, goats, cattle, and horses. They had a good chat with the farmers to learn all about the hard work that goes into getting animals ready for the show! "The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience; they learned so much about the farming community and the food journey from farm to fork. An exceptional time was had by all!" - Miss Bell Thank you to Lathallan Parents' Association for their support to make this trip possible!

Shoutout to all the parents who joined us for the parent vs junior pupil cricket matches yesterday! 🏏👨👧👦 The J1-4 game ended with a victory for the parents, but the J5-7s made a comeback thanks to some dubious umpiring calls… 😅🤷♂️ A fun-filled afternoon of friendly competition.

Tackling Food Waste 🍲 This term J4 pupils tackled the topic of food waste at Lathallan by collecting data from a food waste race. Each day for one week, the class weighed the food waste from every Junior School class at the end of every lunch time. They then put their maths skills to use and presented the data in a table and then a graph. J4 presented their findings during a Junior School assembly along with facts and figures about the detrimental impact food waste has on our environment. They came up with suggestions as to how as a school, we could reduce our food waste. The Junior School have weekly sustainability lessons with this being one of the many topics covered. #eco #foodwaste #
