Helping Young Refugees Rebuild Their Lives Through the Award On World Refugee Day, we proudly join millions of people showing solidarity with refugees fleeing conflict and persecution. 🤝 🌍 Here at the Award, we understand the challenges young refugees face, from Syrian refugees in Jordan or working with our partner, UNICEF Europe & Central Asia , to support Ukrainian young people in neighbouring Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Award teams have provided much-needed support to young people rebuilding their lives in new communities. Jassin from Afghanistan is one of many refugees who have resettled in Finland over the last two decades with the support of the Award team there. When he first arrived at the age of 13 in 2001, Jassin recalls being a lonely young boy. However, through the Award programme, he not only found a network of friends but also grew in confidence to pursue his dreams. This transformative journey led him to represent Finland at the International Gold Event in Hong Kong in 2005 and eventually, a graduate as a Community Educator/ Youth Worker. Today, he is a proud Award volunteer, a testament to the personal growth and empowerment that the programme has instilled in him. "I feel revolutionary changes in me. There is a big difference in Jassin of 2001 and today. This all credit goes to the Award in Finland." Suvi Viljanen, the National Director of the Award in Finland, is proud of their work supporting refugees like Jassin, a cause 'very close’ to their heart. She said: " The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is a powerful tool for young people with refugee backgrounds, aiding them in identity development, uncovering their strengths, and discovering their infinite potential while navigating new environments. In Finland, we have successfully utilized this method for over 20 years to support and empower our youth. Especially, the Finnish nature and adventurous journeys have played a significant role in this transformative experience." #WorldRefugeeDay #WithRefugees

Ever wondered how we measure the social value impact of The Award? 📏📊 As incoming members of the World Bank’s @S4YE_Coalition Impact Portfolio, the first and only Non-Formal Education and Learning focused partner, our research department teamed up with S4YE on a Knowledge Brief that highlights our method and shares useful insights for other youth organisations. In using social value approaches, youth employment programmes can capture and quantify the full range of outcomes and impacts that they create, such as; • improving health • reducing poverty • enhancing social cohesion • contributing to sustainable development. The Foundation's Research Analyst, Sigrid Grosseth, said: "Social Value research has revolutionised The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation’s approach to impact measurement. Through uniting the efforts of Award staff, participants, and volunteers worldwide, we have been able to amplify stakeholder voices while quantifying the Award’s impact and have gained a deeper understanding of the Award’s global significance." ➡️ Read more: https://ow.ly/JIym50R8jTp Solutions for Youth Employment (S4YE) #YouthEmployment

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award: Bronze Adventurous Journey is not just a hike; it is a comprehensive learning experience. Participants from the Mfuleni centre dived into planning, training, and executing a trek through unfamiliar terrain, fostering teamwork and independence. This two-day expedition challenges participants to navigate nature, putting survival skills to the test. With a 6-hour hike on day one and a 4-hour trek on day two, endurance and resilience are key. Our young people were divided into pace-based groups for a smooth journey, ensuring everyone progresses comfortably. Pre-journey training proved crucial, equipping participants with the skills to thrive in the wild #BronzeAdventurousJourney #Teamwork #Empowerment #AfrikaTikkun30

The Duke of Edinburgh champions youth empowerment during his visit to the Award in Uganda! ✨ HRH Prince Edward met with students participating in the programme and participated in an Award in Action trip to a Wildlife Education Centre, where some Award participants are volunteers. During his visit The Duke interacted with numerous Ugandan youth leaders who shared their positive impact in society in the areas of climate, IT, women empowerment and entrepreneurship to gain an appreciation of their contribution to Uganda’s development. 📈 He also had the great honour of meeting the Head of State of Uganda, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to discuss the merits of the Award programme and Non-Formal Education and Learning, with the President officially accepting the role of Patron of the Award in Uganda. 🤝 The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award in Uganda has supported over 200,000 young people over the last two decades and aims to reach as many young people across the country in the years to come. 🔗 https://ow.ly/pCkm50QZt9f #EmpoweringYouth #AwardinUganda #WorldReady
