23 Years facilitating growth for company founders and individuals

This takes me back to the little girl who didn't get saved in IRobot. No matter how you spin it, AI is already biased, the LLMs in existence already have bias within them and developers are having to take moral decisions that will be compounded over the years. What scares me most is the minimal real competition on the leading edge of these technologies. If the NHS were run for profit, people would be concerned it could impact health outcomes for patients. Let's reword that statement for AI. If Societies were run for profit by AI giants, people would be concerned for .... errr the future! 😱 I'm not casting shade on anyone's hard work here. We work with a number of AI firms helping them build their teams. There is some brilliant work being carried out in the space. It's also all too easy to come up with a dystopian future full of negativity. The hype bubble for AI is nearing its peak with the impact of the technology, perhaps also at fever pitch. In recruitment, for instance, there has been AI promotion for a while now. I am yet to see any AI recruitment product that is anything other than boolean with a badge. But we can't lose sight of the fact a huge amount of the AI sector is being funded by VCs, a VC firm's sole priority is to make money for their investors. That is a conflict of interest for social outcomes. What's that? Stop the ride I want to get off?!? Tough! you don't get a choice, decisions for you and your loved ones and society were made in a boardroom with profit generation at the heart of many of them. Did you miss the invite to vote for the future you wanted to play a part in? The only true vote you have to cast is where you spend your cash. It will have more impact than any government ballot box.

ELON'S WARNING AGAINST CHATGPT "I have a concern really for all the major AI programs. I mean, the two biggest ones obviously are Google Gemini and OpenAI. The concern I have, and this may seem like a small concern, but I think it's actually a very big issue, is that they are not maximally truth-seeking. They are pandering to political correctness.

Went back to Essex at the weekend to see some family and ended up bumping into James Cleverly. I normally avoid posting anything political, as I know how divisive it can be. But what I will say is I take my hat off to anyone who puts themselves out there. We all know the conservatives have an up hill battle in the coming general election, and I am sure he no doubt was faced with some very tough questions in Braintree on Saturday. However he still showed up and that is all any of us can do when times get hard. #gottobeinittowinit

23 Years facilitating growth for company founders and individuals

Following up on my post yesterday about the high net worth individuals I have worked with over the years. I have always been quick to learn what I can about their approach, the hidden nugget of information, the magic formula. It's become evident after 20 years there isn't one, a little luck and timing always played its part, BUT! One common element the founders all had without fail is an almost childlike faith in getting the outcome they want. An absolute faith that they just need to keep going and it will happen. I'm sure many have had that faith and didn't make it, but those that have all shared the ability to have faith in their idea when everyone around them had none. It may not be enough on its own, but building something without it is like making bread without yeast.

23 Years facilitating growth for company founders and individuals

My Vicarious Careers newsletter has been supported by many of you in my network and beyond, So firstly let me pass on my thanks for the encouragement and positive comments. In the time it's been running I often receive messages saying a certain experience or subject I posted on resonated with that individual, and offered up a different view on their problem. Fundamentally what has kept me in the recruitment sector for 23 years is the reality that getting 'work' right is a huge catalyst to improved health, improved relationships, connection, purpose. it's also a fact where we spend our cash has far more influence on the world we live in than governments will, so helping the right companies scale is my way of trying to leave a better world for the next generation. So what? I hope you will sign up to the new vicarious newsletter (top of my profile) and tell your friends about it. Worse case scenario my musings don't resonate with you and with one simple click you can unsubscribe. I hope though I can challenge some of your perceptions, along with offering up some tips and insights that add value. www.vicariouscareers.com or click the Newsletter button at the top of my profile.
