Russia has for the first time admitted that the Islamic State (IS) group coordinated the deadly attack on a Moscow concert hall in March that had killed over 140 people. Moscow had previously blamed Ukraine. IS had swiftly claimed responsibility for the assault and provided visual evidence to support its link to the attackers. BBC Monitoring’s Jihadist Media Correspondent Mina Al-Lami discusses the group’s motivation behind the attack.

Raisi was elected President in 2021 and was widely expected to be a candidate to succeed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as supreme leader.
