Of course, we will celebrate every female in International Women’s day but this year I am holding up a beacon to all the Mothers out there… Even with one eye on Sunday. A poignant year for me to write about this. My own Mum was a successful Interior designer but sometimes I do wonder how she juggled bringing up two kids, doing nearly everything for our family and holding down her job so well. But that was many decades ago. And yet there are similar challenges still here today. This year the theme is investment in Women and yet in 2024, I have had a number of challenging, inspiring and enlightening conversations with a number of working Mums out there. There is still a feeling of guilt of losing time with their children versus building their own career. There is the emotional drain from the demands of being pulled in so many directions. There is still the perceived barrier to career progression. Yes of course, there is better understanding by employers, stronger support frameworks and genuine opportunities to find the right balance. Nevertheless, the conversations have highlighted how much more we need to do to ensure Women feel they have the support to fulfil a successful career in the way they see fit as well as being a Mother they wish to be. Have a superb International Women’s day and here at Baker Charles we are proud to celebrate the females in our company as well as their success. And yet again, for the ninth year running, here at Baker Charles we have placed just over 50% women into all our jobs. Something we are immensely proud of here at Baker Charles #iwd2024
