Charles Augustus Lindbergh, born in Detroit, Michigan, on February 4, 1902, led a very interesting and sometimes harrowing life and is most famously known as an American aviator and military officer. On May 20–21, 1927, he made history by completing the first nonstop solo flight from New York City to Paris, covering 3,600 miles (5,800 km) in 33.5 hours. His aircraft, the Spirit of St. Louis, was specially designed by the Ryan Airline Company to compete for the Orteig Prize. Although not the first transatlantic journey, this flight was the first solo and the longest at the time by nearly 2,000 miles (3,200 km), marking it as one of the most consequential flights in history. ✈️ His achievements were celebrated worldwide, and he received praise for his accomplishments and inventions. In 1932, following the abduction of Lindbergh’s son, which due to his fame quickly became a media sensation, a new law was introduced making kidnapping a federal crime. Later in life, Lindbergh served as a consultant in the military during the Second World War, became an advocate for environmental causes, and published several works. He passed away at his home in Kipahulu, Maui, Hawaii, at the age of 72 on August 26, 1974. #aviationhistory #charleslindbergh #transatlanticflight #historicflight #avtrade

This month we’re ‘Running the Runways!’ @aviation_action is on a mission to raise funds to complete the development of an app designed to support all people within the aviation sector, and we’re on board to support them.
